The
airline Eurowings confirms its success story with a successful summer and
autumn season 2024: after nine months, the Eurowings business segment is in the
Lufthansa Group's books with a positive result of EUR 152 million (Adjusted
EBIT) despite a challenging economic environment. In the same period last year,
the business segment, which specializes in affordable business and leisures
flights generated a profit of EUR 147 million.
The
good result is largely due to the change in strategic direction since the Covid
crisis. The accelerated expansion of the tourism business helped the
Cologne-based company increase its turnover to 2.2 billion euros. The number of
passengers carried rose to over 18 million in the first nine months of 2024.
The Lufthansa subsidiary responded to the continuing strong demand for leisure
travel in particular by significantly expanding its program. For the first
time, more than 150 destinations in 39 countries were on the flight schedule of
Germany's largest holiday airline.
‘This
outstanding result is a strong team performance. It deserves all the more
respect because we are operating in a market in Germany with rapidly rising
infrastructure and location costs, which are making flights increasingly
expensive and therefore less profitable on many routes,’ says CEO Jens Bischof.
'At the same time, we are benefiting from the fact that we are increasingly
strengthening our position outside Germany and our positioning as a value
airline for Europe is becoming more and more visible. The rating agency Skytrax
has confirmed that we are on the right track by awarding us the coveted
four-star seal. According to Skytrax, the pronounced service awareness of our
crews plays a decisive role in this. They are more professional, more experienced
and friendlier in their dealings with passengers than their competitors. This
appreciation makes us proud and spurs us on.’
