Delta Air Lines is expanding its European programme
for 2027 with new nonstop routes from Detroit to Athens and from Boston to
Venice. The additions complement the previously announced daily service between
Austin and Paris and come alongside a broader extension of the airline’s
transatlantic season.
Several existing European routes will begin earlier in
spring or continue further into autumn and winter. The changes increase both
summer capacity and shoulder-season options between the United States and
Europe.
Boston gains nonstop flights to Venice
Delta will launch four weekly flights between Boston
and Venice on May 7, 2027. The seasonal service will operate until October 29
using an Airbus A330-300 with Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort
and Delta Main cabins.
Venice will become Delta’s 13th long-haul destination
from Boston during the peak summer season and its 12th destination in
continental Europe. Boston will also become the airline’s third US gateway to
Venice, with connections available to nearly 20 destinations across the United
States.
The airline is strengthening its wider Italian
programme as well. Boston-Milan will increase to daily service in 2027, while
Delta plans up to 17 daily departures between the United States and Italy
during peak periods, providing more than 30,000 nonstop seats per week.
“Customers continue to seek more flexibility,
convenience and choice when traveling to Europe, whether they are planning a
spring escape, a summer vacation or a fall getaway,” said Jeff Arinder, Delta’s
Vice President of International Network Planning.
Detroit receives first Delta nonstop to Athens
A second new route will connect Detroit with Athens
from June 8, 2027. Delta plans three weekly flights until October 28, operated
by an Airbus A330-200.
Athens will become Delta’s 12th long-haul destination
from Detroit during the peak summer season and its seventh in continental
Europe. Detroit will meanwhile become Delta’s fourth US gateway to the Greek
capital.
The hub offers onward connections to more than 40
destinations in the United States, giving the Athens route access to a
considerably larger catchment area than the Detroit market alone.
Austin-Paris starts in March
Delta’s previously announced Austin-Paris route will
begin on March 27, 2027. The daily seasonal service will be Austin’s first
nonstop connection with the French capital and will operate with an Airbus
A330-900neo.
Through Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Delta’s
partnership with Air France-KLM, passengers will have one-stop connections to
nearly 70 destinations across Europe, India and Africa.
Together, the new services broaden the number of US
gateways feeding Delta’s European network rather than concentrating additional
capacity exclusively at its largest established transatlantic hubs.
European season stretches further into spring and
autumn
Delta is also lengthening the operating periods of
several seasonal European routes in 2027. Flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul and
Detroit to Rome are scheduled to begin in early March, followed by Seattle-Rome
in April.
Services from New York-JFK to Catania, Porto, Prague
and Copenhagen will return earlier in the year. The same applies to Boston and
Seattle flights to Barcelona and the Atlanta-Edinburgh route.
Frequency and seasonal changes are planned elsewhere.
Detroit-Rome and New York-JFK-Copenhagen will operate daily when they resume,
while Cincinnati-Paris will continue with three weekly flights from January
through March.
The programme reflects a gradual expansion of the
traditional transatlantic travel season beyond the summer peak. For European
destinations and tourism suppliers, the longer operating periods provide
additional US capacity during months that have traditionally played a smaller
role in leisure traffic.
