Princess Cruises has launched a native app in ChatGPT,
bringing cruise search and planning directly into the AI platform. According to
the cruise line, it is the first global cruise company to introduce such an
integration.
The new app connects ChatGPT with information and
services from Princess Cruises, allowing travellers to move from initial
destination ideas to specific itineraries, prices and availability within the
same conversation.
More than 330 destinations across 17 ships
Once the Princess Cruises app is connected in ChatGPT,
travellers can use everyday language to search more than 330 destinations
served by 17 ships. Searches can be refined by destination, departure date and
cruise length, while different ships and itineraries can be compared.
The integration also provides information on ports,
shore excursions, cruisetours, onboard experiences and packages. Current
pricing and availability can be incorporated into the planning process.
A traveller considering Alaska, for example, can first
search for suitable cruises and then narrow the results to itineraries visiting
Glacier Bay, departing from Seattle or meeting other individual requirements.
Princess sees shift towards AI-based travel discovery
“There is a broader shift in travel discovery as
consumers increasingly use generative AI not simply to find information, but to
help evaluate choices and plan increasingly complex trips,” said Neena Vicente,
Princess Cruises Vice President of Digital Commerce and Experience.
Princess describes the development as a new entry
point into cruise discovery and “agentic commerce”, with travellers
increasingly using conversational AI not only for inspiration but also to
evaluate and refine bookable products.
Expansion to other AI platforms planned
Princess Cruises initially offers the service through
ChatGPT but plans to expand the concept to other compatible AI platforms,
subject to their availability and technical requirements.
For the cruise sector, the development creates another
digital distribution channel between traditional search, cruise-line websites
and online travel platforms. Rather than requiring travellers to repeatedly
enter new search parameters, the conversational approach allows them to refine
a trip progressively while retaining the context of their previous requests.
