Condor has launched its own app in ChatGPT, becoming
the first airline in the DACH region to integrate its travel search services
directly into the platform. Available worldwide, including to users of the free
version of ChatGPT, the app is designed to cover the early stages of travel
planning as well as searches for specific flights.
Rather than requiring travellers to begin with a
destination and fixed dates, the service allows them to describe what they are
looking for in natural language. A user could ask for a warm-weather
destination in March, for example, before comparing possible destinations and
travel periods.
For more specific searches, the app accesses Condor
data to display available flights, schedules, fares and travel classes. Prices
are presented according to the user's market and currency settings. An
interactive map also allows travellers to explore the airline's route network
before deciding where to travel.
From inspiration to flight search
The integration reflects a broader shift in online
travel planning, where conversational AI can potentially move the starting
point away from traditional search forms. Instead of selecting airport codes,
dates and other parameters at the outset, travellers can begin with interests,
preferred climate or a general idea for a trip and progressively narrow their
options.
“With the Condor app in ChatGPT, we support our guests
from the very start of their journey, helping them find ideas and plan their
trips beyond simply choosing a flight,” said Alexander Mai, Director E-Commerce
at Condor. “They can describe what they are looking for naturally and openly,
even if they do not yet have a destination in mind.”
The app can also compare prices across destinations
and travel periods. This makes the integration relevant not only for customers
who already know which route they want, but also for flexible travellers whose
choice may depend on available fares.
Booking itself remains with Condor. Once users have
identified a suitable flight through the ChatGPT app, they are directed to the
airline's website to complete the transaction.
AI becomes a distribution interface
Users can access the service by starting a request
with “Condor”, which opens the airline's app in ChatGPT. Alternatively, the app
can be found and connected through ChatGPT's Plugins directory. The connection
is confirmed when the service is used for the first time.
Typical requests could range from a specific search
such as flights from Frankfurt to Los Cabos in November for two adults to
broader questions about destinations offering warm weather at a particular time
of year.
For Condor, the integration is part of a wider use of
artificial intelligence across customer-facing services and internal processes.
Mai described the launch as an important milestone in the development of the
airline's digital offering.
The significance for airline distribution extends
beyond an additional search channel. By placing destination inspiration,
comparison and flight availability within the same conversation, the model
potentially shifts part of the customer journey away from conventional airline
and travel search interfaces.
Travellers still leave ChatGPT to make their booking,
but the decisions leading up to that point can now take place inside a
conversational environment. For airlines and other travel companies, that makes
AI platforms not only a source of information, but an emerging interface
between inspiration, product discovery and direct distribution.
