Following
the intense storms at its Atlanta hub on Friday night, Delta is working
diligently to restore operations and assist affected travelers. The airline
experienced hundreds of cancellations on Saturday and anticipates additional
delays and disruptions as aircraft are reset and crews repositioned.
Customers
are encouraged to use the Fly Delta app for real-time updates and to manage
travel, including rebooking options.
Storms
on June 27 brought rain, lightning, hail, and strong winds to Atlanta, forcing
a temporary evacuation and power outage at the ATL air traffic control tower.
Over 100 aircraft required hail damage inspections, which Delta teams completed
by Saturday morning. Operational impacts are expected to continue through the
weekend as recovery efforts proceed with safety as the top priority.

Severe
weather on the evening of June 27 caused heavy thunderstorms, hail, and
windshear—including reports of microburst winds—that significantly disrupted
operations at our largest hub in Atlanta, where approximately 900 Delta flights
operate daily. This led to hundreds of cancellations, delays, and diversions
across our network. The ATL control tower evacuation and power loss, combined
with hail inspections for over 100 aircraft, further compounded the challenge.
On
behalf of Delta’s 100,000 employees working around the clock to restore our
hallmark reliability, I apologize for the inconvenience and uncertainty this
has caused. We deeply appreciate your patience.
By
early Sunday morning, many aircraft were back in service following thorough
overnight inspections by our maintenance teams. Operations teams are working to
reschedule crews, while our pilots, flight attendants, airport staff,
reservations agents, and even volunteers from our headquarters are doing all
they can to support you throughout your journey.
If
your travel has been affected, please use the Fly Delta app for updates and
rebooking. Delta.com also provides reliable flight information. If you’ve
incurred expenses due to this disruption, you may submit a claim through our expense
reimbursement form.
