bilateral trade and tourism both recording their
strongest results to date. According to data compiled by Anadolu based on
figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the total trade volume between
the two countries rose to $20.6 billion last year.
Growing political, diplomatic and economic cooperation
in recent years has contributed to the expansion of commercial ties and
increased interaction between the two countries. Between 2021 and 2025,
bilateral trade grew by 29.2 percent.
Trade volume surpasses $20 billion
Türkiye’s exports to Spain exceeded the $10-billion
mark for the first time in 2025, reaching $10.4 billion. Imports from Spain
also increased to $10.1 billion, bringing total trade volume to its highest
level since official records began in 2013.
Spain ranked as Türkiye’s seventh-largest export
destination. Motor vehicles accounted for the largest share of exports, valued
at $3.05 billion. Other key export categories included knitted apparel and
accessories at $1.09 billion and boilers, machinery and mechanical equipment at
$927 million.
Trade between the two countries has shown steady
growth in recent years. The total volume reached $15.9 billion in 2021,
increased to $16.7 billion in 2022 and climbed to $19.3 billion in 2023. After
a slight decline to $19.1 billion in 2024, trade rebounded to a record level in
2025.
Spanish tourism to Türkiye also reaches record
Tourism between the two countries has also grown
significantly. In 2025, a record 452,790 Spanish travelers visited Türkiye,
continuing a steady recovery after the pandemic years.
For comparison, visitor numbers had fallen to 54,381
in 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis. Since then the figures have risen steadily,
reaching 104,848 in 2021, 298,165 in 2022, 324,690 in 2023 and 382,896 in 2024.
The upward trend has continued in 2026. In January
alone, 24,847 Spanish visitors traveled to Türkiye, representing a year-on-year
increase of 24.1 percent.
The strong performance in both trade and tourism
underscores the growing cooperation and economic ties between the two
countries.
