Chile marks National Wine Day with more than 50 experiences

Chile is preparing to celebrate National Wine Day with more than 50 events and experiences across its wine-producing regions and major cities. The programme coordinated through Enoturismo Chile ranges from free public celebrations and traditional winery visits to night tours, vineyard picnics, food pairings and premium experiences.

National Wine Day is celebrated every September 4 and was officially established in 2015 following an initiative supported by 17 organisations from the wine sector. The date recognises not only the economic importance of wine production but also its connections with Chilean history, heritage, gastronomy, culture and tourism.

From vineyard picnics to night tours

The 2026 programme reflects the growing diversity of Chilean wine tourism. Visitors can explore vineyards and cellars after dark, join specially designed wine dinners, take part in tastings and food pairings or spend a picnic among the vines.

Other experiences focus on biodynamic production, historic estates and the characteristics of individual terroirs. Wine is also being combined with art, music, gastronomy and nature.

Prices cover a broad range. Some activities are free, while entry-level experiences start at around 5,000 to 10,000 Chilean pesos. At the other end of the spectrum are more elaborate gastronomic and premium wine-tourism programmes.

Maipo Valley brings wine into Santiago

National Wine Day will not be confined to the vineyards. In Santiago, the Maipo Valley will stage a free celebration around Paseo Nueva York and Barrio La Bolsa, bringing together wine, food, culture, heritage, local entrepreneurs and wine-tourism experiences.

Vinos de Chile will meanwhile celebrate at Mercado Urbano Tobalaba for the first time. The programme will take visitors on a journey through wines and producing regions from northern to southern Chile, complemented by tastings and themed sessions.

Events are also planned in areas including Choapa and Guarilihue as well as wine valleys across central and southern Chile. The geographical spread is intended to showcase the different landscapes, traditions and communities behind the country's wines.

Wine tourism opens another perspective on Chile

Chile is already internationally established as a wine-producing country. Enoturismo Chile sees an opportunity to translate that reputation into stronger recognition as a wine-tourism destination.

Wine tourism adds elements that cannot easily be conveyed by the bottle alone: vineyard landscapes, historic estates, regional cuisine, local communities and the people involved in production. It can also broaden the tourism economy in rural areas and create additional opportunities for local businesses and employment.

“Chile is already recognised worldwide for the quality of its wines, and today we have a great opportunity to further position the country as a wine tourism destination of excellence,” said Claudio Cilveti, President of Enoturismo Chile.

“Wine tourism allows us to show everything that lies behind a glass: our landscapes, history, heritage, gastronomy and, especially, the people and communities that bring each territory to life.”

September 4 puts Chile's wine regions in the spotlight

The National Wine Day programme is designed both for dedicated wine enthusiasts and visitors looking for a different way to explore Chile. Activities range from short tastings in Santiago to excursions into established and lesser-known wine regions.

For the tourism sector, the celebration also highlights a broader development: Chilean wine is increasingly being presented not simply as a product, but as a reason to travel and discover the landscapes, food, heritage and communities of the places where it is produced.
