Multigenerational travel is becoming an increasingly
visible part of the family holiday market. Grandparents, parents and children
are travelling together more often, sometimes accompanied by close friends,
creating demand for resorts capable of accommodating different interests and
age groups within the same trip.
Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts has aligned its
recent portfolio restructuring with this development. Following a renewal of
its visual identity and brand architecture, the company has divided its hotels
into two main categories: Bahia Principe Escape and Bahia Principe Explore.
Explore targets families and groups
Bahia Principe Escape brings together adults-only
properties focused on wellbeing, gastronomy and specialised entertainment.
Bahia Principe Explore, by contrast, is designed around families and groups
looking to spend their holidays together.
Within the Explore portfolio, several resorts place
particular emphasis on families with younger children. Creative and immersive
environments, entertainment and activities are intended to provide experiences
that can be enjoyed by children while allowing different generations to spend
more of their holiday together.
Tenerife combines fantasy with Canarian culture
At Bahia Principe Explore Fantasia in Tenerife, the
concept is built around the legends of Papimber and the Gardens of the
Hesperides. A large castle provides the setting for family shows and parades,
complemented by dedicated areas for children and teenagers.
The resort also incorporates elements of Canarian
culture into its gastronomy and entertainment. One of its visual landmarks is
the large dragon tree by the swimming pool, inspired by the characteristic tree
species of the Canary Islands.
Punta Cana turns family holidays into an adventure
In the Dominican Republic, Bahia Principe Explore
Legend in Punta Cana takes a fantasy-oriented approach. Three castles, water
parks, kids' clubs and areas for teenagers form part of a resort environment
designed for different age groups.
Immersive experiences such as Oneiro and evening shows
featuring Papimber add to the entertainment programme. Dominican culture is
incorporated through local music, food and other elements of the resort
experience.
Tulum draws on Mayan heritage
Bahia Principe Explore Tulum takes a different
approach, using the nature and culture of the Riviera Maya as its setting. The
concept is partly inspired by ORIGEN, Bahia Principe's own entertainment
production.
Zamá introduces younger guests to aspects of Mayan
culture, while activities, gastronomy and shows provide opportunities for
families to experience the destination together.
Shared experiences gain importance
The three resorts illustrate how the traditional
family holiday is changing as hotels respond to groups spanning several
generations. Rather than providing separate programmes for individual age
groups alone, the emphasis is increasingly shifting towards experiences that
families can share.
For resort operators, this means balancing children's
facilities and entertainment with gastronomy, culture, relaxation and
destination experiences that also appeal to parents and grandparents. The
result is a broader interpretation of the family resort, built around
travelling together without expecting every generation to want exactly the same
holiday.
