The Erciyes Ski Resort has entered the winter season
with clear momentum. Since opening on 18 December, around 550,000 visitors from
Turkey and abroad have taken to the slopes within just 23 days. The figures
underline Erciyes’ rising profile as a high-performing winter sports
destination with an increasingly international outlook.
Alpine scale comparable to Europe
With 112 kilometres of groomed pistes, 25 kilometres
of modern lift and cable car systems, and several clearly defined access zones,
Erciyes operates on a scale comparable to many established European ski
resorts. The Tekir, Hacılar, Hisarcık and Develi sectors provide fast access to
runs of varying difficulty levels. The offering is complemented by 5.6
kilometres of illuminated slopes that allow for night skiing – a comfort
feature that is far from standard even in many Alpine regions.
Short transfers and easy access
One of Erciyes’ key competitive advantages is its
accessibility. Kayseri International Airport is located around 20 kilometres
from the resort, while the city centre is just four kilometres away. Transfer
times are therefore significantly shorter than in many high-altitude European
ski areas. For international visitors, the experience is straightforward:
arrive, check in and head straight to the slopes, without long mountain
journeys.
International-style accommodation at the mountain
Alongside the development of its sports
infrastructure, Erciyes has seen the emergence of a diverse and increasingly
international hotel landscape. Directly at the resort or in its immediate
vicinity, several properties are clearly geared towards international winter
sports guests. These include the Radisson Blu Hotel, Mount Erciyes, which
combines alpine comfort with international brand standards, and Megasaray Mount
Erciyes, positioned in the upper comfort segment. Additional options such as
Mirada Del Lago Hotel, Library Hotel Erciyes, Liv Hotels Erciyes and DAS 3917
cater specifically to active, sports-oriented travellers.
For guests who prefer to combine city life with
skiing, the nearby city of Kayseri offers further internationally recognised
hotel brands, including Radisson Blu Kayseri and Holiday Inn Kayseri. This
structure provides European travellers in particular with flexibility in terms
of accommodation choice and length of stay.
Sport, nature and year-round appeal
Erciyes is not only a winter destination. The mountain
is also popular with alpinists and hikers, who regularly undertake summit
ascents. In addition, the region has established itself as a base for
professional sport through its high-performance and altitude training centre,
attracting international teams that use the conditions for training camps.
Ambitious visitor targets
Kayseri’s Mayor, Memduh Büyükkılıç, has expressed
confidence in the current season. Around 550,000 guests have visited Erciyes
since the start of the season, compared with a total of 2.5 million visitors
last year. For the current winter, the city expects around three million
visitors. Erciyes is already welcoming guests from countries such as Poland and
the Czech Republic, as well as from more distant markets.
A ski resort with growing international appeal
With its combination of modern infrastructure, high
capacity, excellent accessibility and an increasingly international hotel
offering, Erciyes is positioning itself as a winter sports destination that is
both realistic and attractive for European skiers. Not as an exotic
alternative, but as a fully fledged ski resort with professional standards,
clear structure and genuine alpine quality.
