Pegasus Airlines and Air Canada have concluded an
interline agreement aimed at improving connectivity between North America and
Türkiye. The partnership allows passengers to travel to Istanbul and Izmir on a
single ticket, using connecting flights via major European hubs.
Expanded access via European gateways
Under the agreement, travelers departing from North
America on Air Canada flights can transfer to Pegasus-operated services through
key European airports. Pegasus identified Amsterdam, Athens, Copenhagen,
Frankfurt, Geneva, Munich, Vienna and Zurich among the primary connection
points.
The arrangement enables onward travel to Istanbul
Sabiha Gökçen Airport and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Pegasus highlighted
Amsterdam and Frankfurt as central transfer nodes within the cooperation.
Streamlined baggage handling
A central feature of the agreement is through-checked
baggage. Passengers’ luggage will be tagged directly to the final destination,
removing the need for re-check procedures during transit. Airlines view this as
a critical factor in improving the overall travel experience on multi-leg
international itineraries.
Strategic positioning for both carriers
Onur Dedekoylu, Chief Commercial Officer of Pegasus
Airlines, said the cooperation aligns with the airline’s strategy to strengthen
its international network and broaden access to Türkiye.
“We aim to take this cooperation even further with
codesharing and a loyalty program in the future,” Dedekoylu said.
Mary-Jane Lorette, Vice President of Revenue
Management, Partnerships and International Affairs at Air Canada, emphasized
the carrier’s focus on global connectivity.
She noted that the partnership expands Air Canada’s
presence in the Turkish market and provides customers with additional routing
options to the region.
Growing transatlantic travel relevance
Interline agreements have gained renewed importance as
airlines seek to extend network reach without deploying additional long-haul
capacity. For passengers, such arrangements increasingly translate into
simplified booking processes and more integrated travel chains across carriers
and regions.
