With its inaugural European season, Celebrity Cruises
is expanding the concept of destination immersion at sea. On board Celebrity
Xcel, guests will experience four new European-inspired festivals designed to
carry the spirit of Mediterranean destinations well beyond time spent ashore.
At the center of this approach is The Bazaar, a first-of-its-kind venue that
blurs the line between ship and shore.
The Bazaar: where ship and destination converge
Introduced on Celebrity Xcel in late 2025, The Bazaar
reimagines sea days as cultural extensions of the ports visited. The
multi-level space combines destination-inspired food and drink, live
entertainment, markets featuring local artisans, hands-on workshops, and
immersive visual storytelling delivered through three-story LED screens.
Programming evolves throughout each sailing, ensuring that no two days offer
the same experience.
“Since the concept launched on Celebrity Xcel, The
Bazaar has revolutionized destination immersion, keeping guests enveloped in
the culture of destinations well beyond their time in port,” said Laura Hodges
Bethge, President of Celebrity Cruises. “We’re excited to transform the
experience again by bringing the heartbeat of the Mediterranean on board
throughout every European sailing.”
Four festivals inspired by the Mediterranean
At the heart of The Bazaar are four festivals that
reflect the region’s diversity, traditions, and atmosphere. Each festival
unfolds from day into night, combining cuisine, crafts, music, and performance.
The Opa! Festival draws on the energy and traditions
of Greece. Daytime experiences pair classic dishes such as baklava and moussaka
with creative workshops like crafting Mati evil-eye jewelry. In the evening,
live musicians and dance transform the space into a celebration marked by
music, movement, and spontaneous calls of “Opa!”
Italy takes center stage during La Dolce Vita Festival,
which celebrates the flavors and romance of Italian life. Guests sample
limoncello, learn to prepare pasta and tiramisu, and, after dark, step into an
atmosphere inspired by Venetian elegance and theatrical flair.
The Salud Festival channels Spain’s color, rhythm, and
passion. Sangria tastings and Spanish cuisine accompany daytime activities such
as creating flamenco roses and fans. As night falls, flamenco dancers and
performers bring intensity and movement to the celebration.
Completing the quartet, Silk & Spice Festival
explores cultural influences from Morocco and Turkey. Fragrant teas, Turkish
delight, and interactive activities fill the daytime programme, while evenings
feature energetic music and whirling dance performances inspired by the eastern
Mediterranean.
Cuisine as cultural connection
Food plays a central role in the experience. The
open-kitchen venue Mosaic serves reimagined dishes inspired by cities such as
Naples, Mykonos, and Lisbon, while Spice offers rotating daytime bites
influenced by the ports on each itinerary, framed by floor-to-ceiling sea
views. On sea days, Market at The Bazaar presents regional products sourced
from local artisans across Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Portugal, and Morocco.
Guests seeking a deeper culinary connection can join Chef’s
Studio at Mosaic, Celebrity’s first destination-inspired cooking school.
Classes change throughout the voyage to reflect the festival themes, allowing
guests to learn regional recipes tied directly to the destinations visited.
Mediterranean itineraries begin in 2026
From May 2026, Celebrity Xcel will sail her first
European season on seven- to 11-night itineraries departing from Barcelona and Athens.
The voyages include destinations such as Florence, Palma de Mallorca,
Santorini, and Mykonos, as well as new overnight stays in Madeira, allowing
guests to linger longer ashore.
With the introduction of these four festivals,
Celebrity Cruises aims to redefine how travelers experience Europe at sea—by
ensuring that the culture of each destination continues long after the ship
leaves port.
