Taiwanese travelers are increasingly seeking warmer
destinations at the start of the year. Digital travel platform Agoda has
analyzed accommodation search trends for trips scheduled between January and
February 2026, revealing a clear preference for sun-focused short-haul
getaways. The data is based on searches conducted by travelers from Taiwan
between November and December 2025.
Short-haul warmth defines early-year travel patterns
According to Agoda’s findings, travelers are
prioritizing destinations that combine warm climates with accessibility,
culinary appeal, and shopping opportunities. Rather than planning extended
holidays, many are opting for shorter trips designed to deliver a concentrated
seasonal escape.
Okinawa Main Island retains its position as the most
searched warm-weather destination among Taiwanese travelers. The Japanese
island is followed by Bangkok, Singapore, Chiang Mai, Ho Chi Minh City,
Pattaya, Bali, Phu Quoc Island, Kuala Lumpur, and Da Nang.
The ranking reflects a broader shift toward compact
travel formats that transform a few days off into immersive leisure
experiences, whether through beach retreats, urban exploration, or light
cultural discovery.
Vietnamese destinations gain momentum
Year-on-year comparisons highlight notable changes
within the ranking. Ho Chi Minh City recorded the strongest growth among the
top ten destinations, with a 64 percent increase in searches. Agoda attributes
this rise to growing interest in nearby city breaks centered on food, café
culture, and retail experiences.
Other destinations showing significant search growth
include Okinawa (+51 percent), Da Nang (+25 percent), and Hanoi (+15 percent),
underscoring Vietnam’s expanding appeal as a multi-city winter escape option.
Jishan Chai, Country Director for Taiwan at Agoda,
commented on the evolving travel behavior: “When temperatures dip at the start
of the year, Taiwanese travelers tend to look for destinations that are
short-haul, warm, and flexible, so they can relax more efficiently. From the
blue waters of Okinawa to Vietnam’s lively coastal and urban destinations, the
data shows travelers care about more than just the weather. Convenience, food
experiences, and overall value matter too.”
Convenience and value remain central decision factors
Agoda emphasizes that travelers continue to balance
experiential motivations with practical considerations. Ease of travel,
perceived value, and lifestyle compatibility remain decisive factors in
destination selection.
The platform currently offers access to more than 6
million accommodation listings, over 130,000 flight routes, and more than
300,000 bookable activities. According to the company, integrated filtering
tools allow users to tailor trips by destination, budget, ratings, and
amenities, facilitating efficient travel planning for short-haul leisure
escapes.
