Hilton has been named the No. 1 Best Workplace in Asia by Great Place to Work for the second consecutive year, while also extending its run as the region’s highest-ranked hospitality company to ten years. The recognition comes during a period of rapid expansion for the hotel group, whose Asia-Pacific workforce has more than doubled since its first appearance on the ranking in 2017.
Today, more than 99,000 Hilton employees work across a network of over 1,300 hotels in Asia Pacific. In 2017, the company employed around 48,000 people in the region.
Workforce doubles alongside hotel expansion
Hilton’s growth across Asia Pacific has created increasing demand for recruitment, training and internal career development. The company says it has sought to accompany its expanding hotel portfolio with programmes that allow employees to move between positions, brands and markets.
Leadership initiatives include SHINE, a development programme for future general managers, alongside the Luxury Leaders Program, Women in Leadership and programmes aimed at employees at the beginning of their careers.
“We are incredibly proud to be named Asia’s #1 Best Workplace across all industries for the second year running, and to mark our 10th consecutive year of recognition as Asia’s top-ranked hospitality company,” says Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton.
“It reflects the way we support one another, create opportunities for growth, and foster a deep sense of belonging that enables our team members to do their best work.”
Technology changes everyday hotel work
The transformation of Hilton’s workforce is also extending to the way hotels are staffed and operated. The company has introduced gig-work programmes in Greater China and Japan, while AI-supported scheduling and the automation of routine processes are being used in parts of the business.
The objective is to reduce time spent on repetitive tasks while allowing hotel employees to concentrate more heavily on guest interaction and other service-related work.
Recruitment technology is also being developed to handle hiring across a rapidly expanding regional network while maintaining personal interaction during the application process.
Wellbeing extends beyond the workplace
Hilton has complemented its career programmes with initiatives focused on employee wellbeing. Its Thrive@Hilton framework includes support ranging from wellness education and personalised coaching to counselling and fertility services for employees and their families.
Other initiatives include the Thrive Sabbatical, which gives selected employees an opportunity to pursue personal projects, and MyStay@Hilton, a recognition programme aimed at improving the employee experience. In China, Hilton also operates a wellbeing platform giving employees access to selected products and services.
“Being recognized as Asia’s top hospitality workplace for 10 consecutive years is a powerful testament to who we are as a company,” says Patsy Ng, senior vice president, human resources, Asia Pacific, Hilton.
“As our team expands and our culture travels into new communities and destinations, we are as committed as ever to ensuring every team member has the support and pathways to grow alongside us.”
Employee feedback determines the ranking
Great Place to Work bases its Best Workplaces in Asia ranking on confidential feedback provided directly by employees. Hilton has also recently received workplace recognition in individual Asia-Pacific markets including China, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and New Zealand.
The company has additionally been recognised as a leading hospitality workplace in Australia, Indonesia and Singapore. In Japan, Hilton was named the Best Workplace for Women for the first time, while China marked its seventh consecutive year of recognition in this area.
The latest Asian award follows Hilton’s recognition as the World’s Best Workplace and the No. 1 Best Workplace in Asia by Fortune and Great Place to Work in 2025.
