Central
to the initiative is the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) use across the
company’s operations and the rollout of charging infrastructure in key holiday
destinations.
By
2030, TUI aims to equip 1,000 hotel locations worldwide with EV charging
stations—covering both its own hotels and those operated by partners. At the
same time, 80–90% of TUI’s entire vehicle fleet, including company cars,
airport operations vehicles, and guest transfer buses, will be fully electric.
Clear
Commitment to the Future of Tourism
“TUI
is making a clear commitment to the future viability of tourism,” said Sebastian
Ebel, CEO of TUI Group. “We are leveraging new technologies to drive
sustainable transformation both in our source markets and destinations. While
aviation, hotels and cruises remain significant contributors to our ecological
footprint, ground transport is an area where rapid progress is achievable.”
These
mobility goals are part of TUI’s wider ‘People, Planet, Progress’
sustainability strategy. The EV rollout complements existing Science Based
Targets validated plans for carbon reduction in TUI’s airline, hotel, and
cruise divisions—all of which are to be met by 2030.
Exclusive
smart Partnership and Special Edition EVs
As
part of the announcement, TUI also revealed a strategic partnership with smart
Germany. Together, the companies will launch a TUI-branded special edition EV
this summer, featuring unique TUI accessories and a navigation system that
highlights the nearest TUI travel agency or hotel.
“With
this collaboration, TUI is embedding e-mobility directly into the holiday
experience,” said Ebel. “The aesthetics, innovation, and values of smart align
perfectly with the globally recognized TUI Smile.”
Wolfgang
Ufer, CEO of smart Germany, commented: “This partnership is built on trust,
shared values, and a joint vision. We're proud to help bring fully electric,
sustainable mobility to life in partnership with TUI.”
Initially,
the TUI special editions will be available for the smart electric models #1 and
#3, with the upcoming #5 SUV to follow. These vehicles will be offered under exclusive
conditions to TUI employees, their families, friends, and customers.
Additionally, TUI plans to gradually integrate the smart models into its fleet
at holiday destinations worldwide.
Further
information on pricing, specifications, and availability will be released soon.
