Certification
across all German locations
Eurowings
has been officially certified according to the European EMAS (Eco-Management
and Audit Scheme) and the international ISO 14001 standards. The initial audit
took place in May 2025 and was successfully completed in August with the
issuance of the EMAS certificate by the German Chamber of Commerce and
Industry. The certification covers all German sites in administration, flight
operations and maintenance across Eurowings Aviation GmbH, Eurowings GmbH,
Eurowings Digital GmbH and Eurowings Technik GmbH.
EMAS
and ISO 14001 explained
Both
standards are internationally recognized frameworks for environmental
management. ISO 14001 defines how companies can continuously improve
environmental performance, minimize risks and comply with regulations. EMAS
goes a step further, requiring additional transparency, regular external audits
and the publication of an environmental statement.
First
environmental statement published
As
part of the certification, Eurowings has released its first environmental
statement for the years 2022 to 2024. It documents the environmental impact of
all German locations and outlines how the airline is working systematically
towards its ecological goals.
“The
introduction of a certified environmental management system is a logical step
towards embedding sustainability even more firmly in our corporate
organization. The successful certification shows that we take our environmental
goals seriously and continuously optimize our processes,” says Ruben
Baumgarten, Sustainability Manager at Eurowings.
Next
steps
Eurowings
plans to extend certification to its pan-European locations in the coming year.
The environmental statement will be updated annually with the latest figures,
providing a transparent overview of the ongoing development of the airline’s
environmental management system.
