Uzbekistan Airways has announced the biggest aircraft
order in its history, confirming the purchase of 14 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners
with options for eight additional jets. The deal, unveiled in New York
alongside the United Nations General Assembly, strengthens the airline’s
position as Central Asia’s leading international carrier and supports nearly
35,000 U.S. jobs.
A milestone for Uzbekistan’s aviation sector
The agreement was signed in the presence of Shavkat
Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with leaders from
Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways. In addition, Boeing and the Uzbek Ministry of
Transport signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to explore further opportunities
for developing the country’s aviation ecosystem.
Expanding global connectivity
“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has proven to be the
cornerstone of our long-haul operations,” said Shukhrat Khudaikulov, Chairman
of Uzbekistan Airways. “With this new contract, we are strengthening both our
airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia,
while offering passengers greater global connectivity. This step reaffirms our
ambitions and our commitment to sustainable growth.”
Already the first airline in Central Asia to operate
the 787, Uzbekistan Airways currently flies 787-8 aircraft to destinations in
Europe, Asia, and the United States – including nonstop service to New York.
The larger 787-9 variant will give the carrier increased capacity and range,
enabling new long-haul routes as demand for international travel rises.

President of Commercial Sales and Marketing at Boeing. “The fuel efficiency and
flexibility of the 787 Dreamliner make it the right choice to open new markets
and share Uzbekistan’s culture with more travelers worldwide.”

The Boeing 787 family is recognized for reducing fuel
use and emissions by 25 percent compared to the aircraft it replaces, thanks to
advanced aerodynamics, composite materials, and innovative systems. Its
passenger-friendly design also enhances comfort while enabling airlines to
serve new city pairs efficiently.
