Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) is positioning
Taiwan as a key hub for cruise tourism in Asia at Seatrade Cruise Global 2026
in Miami. Under its international tourism brand “Taiwan – Waves of Wonder,” the
destination is promoting its geographic advantages for regional cruise
itineraries and fly-cruise programmes, while introducing “Taiwan 100 Ways” as a
new framework for showcasing the island’s diverse travel experiences.
At the exhibition, Taiwan’s pavilion was designed in
the shape of the Chinese character 門, meaning
“door” or “gateway,” symbolising the country’s ambition to serve as a gateway
for cruise travel across Asia. Its central location within the region allows
cruise operators to integrate Taiwan easily into multi-port itineraries while
offering convenient air connections for long-haul travellers.
Yu-Hsuan Su, Secretary of International Marketing in
the International Affairs Division of the Taiwan Tourism Administration, said:
“Taiwan sits at the heart of Asia, making it an ideal hub for regional
itineraries. With strong air connectivity, high-standard port infrastructure,
and seamless integration between homeport operations and fly-cruise programs,
Taiwan offers cruise partners a practical and compelling platform for growth.”
Strong connectivity supports cruise development
Taiwan’s geographical position and transport
infrastructure are key elements of its cruise strategy. According to the
tourism authority, more than 180 direct flights operate each week between North
America and Taiwan, providing convenient access for international cruise
passengers.
At the same time, the country’s modern port facilities
are designed to support efficient cruise operations and smooth passenger
handling. This combination of air and sea connectivity allows cruise operators
to develop fly-cruise itineraries that connect international arrivals with
regional voyages across Asia.
Incentives aim to increase cruise calls
To strengthen partnerships with cruise operators, the
tourism authority has introduced a set of incentives designed to encourage port
calls and fly-cruise programmes. International cruise lines bringing overseas
passengers to Taiwan can receive subsidies of up to US$15,000 per ship call for
port stays longer than 12 hours, while shorter calls may qualify for support of
up to US$7,500.
Additional incentives are available for fly-cruise
operations, with cruise lines receiving up to US$10 per international passenger
arriving in Taiwan as part of a cruise itinerary. The programmes aim to support
route development, marketing initiatives and closer cooperation between
airlines and cruise operators.
New concept showcases diverse travel experiences
Alongside its cruise strategy, Taiwan is presenting
the concept “Taiwan 100 Ways,” which expands the country’s tourism brand
“Taiwan – Waves of Wonder,” introduced in 2024.
Rather than highlighting a single landmark or
attraction, the concept emphasises the wide range of experiences travellers can
enjoy across the island. These include urban culture, local cuisine, nature and
outdoor activities, wellness experiences, shopping and romantic travel.
By presenting Taiwan as both a cruise gateway and a
destination rich in lifestyle experiences, the tourism authority aims to
attract a broader international audience and strengthen the country’s position
within Asia’s growing cruise tourism market.
