Spain’s Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario
Sánchez, has held a coordination meeting with key representatives of the
tourism sector to assess and monitor the potential impact of the war in the
Middle East on tourism activity. The initiative reflects a joint effort to
evaluate risks and strengthen preparedness in a period marked by geopolitical
uncertainty.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts to improve
crisis governance within the tourism sector. It is aligned with the development
of an Early Response Committee for tourism crises, as outlined in the Spain
Tourism Strategy 2030, aimed at enhancing both prevention and response
mechanisms.
Close coordination between government and industry
The Secretary of State has activated monitoring and
coordination mechanisms with the sector to ensure a structured response to
potential disruptions. Participants included representatives from CEOE,
Exceltur, UGT, CCOO, UN Tourism, WTTC and AENA, as well as officials from the
Ministries of Economy and Foreign Affairs, Turespaña, SEGITTUR and Paradores.
During the meeting, Sánchez gathered insights from
industry stakeholders, whose outlook is shaped by uncertainty regarding the
duration of the conflict, but also by confidence in the sector’s proven
resilience during previous periods of instability.
Stable demand despite cautious market outlook
At present, no significant decline in bookings to
Spain has been observed across most source markets. However, stakeholders noted
a cautious stance among travellers, influenced by factors such as the length of
the conflict, fluctuations in oil prices and the normalization of air routes.
Spain continues to position itself as a safe
destination, supported by strong collaboration between public authorities and
the private sector.
Ongoing monitoring agreed
Both the government and industry representatives
agreed to continue holding regular meetings to closely monitor developments and
coordinate responses as the situation evolves.
