Ryanair, Europe’s and Italy’s largest airline, has
announced its Winter 2025 schedule for Bologna. The programme includes 44
routes, one reinstated connection to Amman and 11 aircraft based at the
airport—an investment exceeding one billion US dollars. The airline expects to
carry six million passengers per year and support more than 4,800 local jobs,
strengthening Bologna’s role as a year-round gateway for inbound tourism.
Expanded network and additional frequencies
Alongside the return of the Bologna–Amman route,
Ryanair is increasing frequencies on more than 20 popular services, including
Barcelona, Budapest, Dublin, Krakow and Tirana. With these additions, customers
across Bologna and the wider Emilia-Romagna region gain broader access to
leisure and business destinations at the carrier’s lowest fares. Ryanair has
served Bologna for 17 years and has already transported more than 55 million
passengers to and from the airport.
Investment outlook and policy demands
Ryanair reiterates its readiness to expand further if
the Italian Government abolishes the Municipal Tax at all airports. The airline
states that removing the levy would trigger an immediate investment: 40 new
based aircraft, 250 additional routes, 20 million extra passengers and 1,500
new Ryanair jobs—supporting up to 15,000 jobs across Italy.
To mark the launch of the Winter 2025 schedule and the
reinstated Amman route, Ryanair is offering a three-day seat sale with fares
starting at €34.99 for travel until the end of June, bookable exclusively on
ryanair.com.
Statements from Ryanair and Bologna Airport
Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jason McGuinness,
said the Winter 2025 programme reflects the airline’s continued commitment to
the Emilia-Romagna region, noting that the 44 routes and more than 520 weekly
flights will offer over 2.2 million low-fare seats this winter, a ten per cent
increase compared with Winter 2024. He highlighted the long-standing presence
in Bologna and the substantial investment associated with the 11 based
aircraft.
Antonello Bonolis, Director of Business Aviation at
Bologna Airport, emphasised the importance of the partnership for the region’s
development since its launch in 2008. He noted that Ryanair now accounts for
around 55 per cent of the airport’s total passenger traffic and highlighted the
airport’s broader economic impact, generating more than one billion euros in
GDP and over 20,000 jobs through direct, indirect and induced effects.
