Qatar Airways has reached another milestone in
in-flight connectivity by becoming the first airline globally to equip the Boeing
787-8 with Starlink. At the same time, the carrier has completed the
installation of Starlink across its entire Airbus A350 fleet, finishing the
rollout in December 2025 after just eight months.
With three Boeing 787 Dreamliners already equipped,
Qatar Airways now operates nearly 120 Starlink-connected widebody aircraft,
covering Airbus A350s, Boeing 777s and Boeing 787s. This represents more than
half of the airline’s widebody fleet and marks the fastest and most extensive
Starlink widebody rollout in global aviation to date.
Rapid deployment across three aircraft types
Following its pioneering Starlink introduction on the
Boeing 777, Qatar Airways completed the A350 programme and rapidly expanded the
technology to its Dreamliner fleet. Within just 14 months, the airline launched
and concluded Starlink installations on two major widebody types and became the
world’s first carrier to secure Starlink certification for the Boeing 787-8.
This achievement further strengthens Qatar Airways’
position as the global leader in long-haul and ultra-long-haul connectivity and
builds on its role as the worldwide launch customer for the Airbus A350.
Faster-than-home Wi-Fi for millions of travellers
Since the service launch in October 2024, more than 11
million Qatar Airways passengers have already benefited from complimentary,
gate-to-gate Starlink Wi-Fi. In 2025 alone, Starlink connected over 21 million
airline passengers globally, with Qatar Airways accounting for nearly half of
that total.
Passengers onboard Starlink-equipped aircraft enjoy
ultra-high-speed connectivity of up to 500 Mbps, enabling uninterrupted
streaming, video calls and real-time productivity, even on long and
ultra-long-haul routes.
Expanding global coverage
Starlink-enabled aircraft now operate on an increasing
number of routes across six continents, including most destinations served by
Qatar Airways in the Americas and Australia, as well as key routes in Africa,
Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
As the World’s Best Airline, as voted by Skytrax in
2025 for the ninth time, Qatar Airways continues to position in-flight
connectivity as a core element of the passenger experience, setting new
industry benchmarks for speed, scale and reliability.
