Norwegian Cruise Line has opened the first phase of
major enhancements at Great Stirrup Cay, its private island in the Bahamas. At
the heart of the upgrade is Great Life Lagoon, a new 1.4-acre pool area
designed for both relaxation and family fun, marking a significant milestone in
the island’s ongoing transformation.
The newly opened lagoon features a large heated pool
with a beach-style entrance, family splash zones, two swim-up bars and private
cabanas overlooking the ocean and pool. Complementing the main pool is Splash
Harbor, a complimentary splash pad for younger guests, as well as a new Welcome
Center and an on-island tram system to improve ease of movement.
Adults-only retreat and premium experiences
For guests seeking a more exclusive setting, Norwegian
Cruise Line has introduced the Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only beachfront area
accessible via an all-day pass. The space includes private cabanas and a
dedicated bar, offering a quieter alternative within the island’s expanded
leisure offering.
“Great Stirrup Cay has always been a favorite for our
guests, and these new enhancements make it even easier to trade winter weather
for the warm tropics,” said Harry Sommer, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise
Line Holdings Ltd. The goal, he noted, is to give guests greater freedom to
shape their island day, whether focused on family activities, relaxation or
premium experiences.
Further expansion planned for 2026
The island’s development will continue with the
opening of Great Tides Waterpark in summer 2026. The new attraction will
feature 19 waterslides, including high-thrill rides, family-friendly slides, a
dynamic river and a dedicated children’s splash zone. Highlights include the
Tidal Tower with multiple slide experiences and industry-first cliffside jump
attractions.
In 2026, 17 Norwegian Cruise Line ships will call at
Great Stirrup Cay as part of Caribbean, Bahamas and short-break itineraries,
bringing more than one million guests to the island. This includes visits from
the new Norwegian Aqua and the upcoming Norwegian Luna, both sailing
seven-night Caribbean itineraries from Florida.
With the latest upgrades, Norwegian Cruise Line
positions Great Stirrup Cay as a year-round tropical escape, combining
large-scale leisure facilities with flexible experiences for families, couples
and adults-only travelers alike.
