Digital travel platform Agoda reports a sharp increase
in travel interest between China and Vietnam, signaling strengthening tourism
ties between the two nations. According to Agoda’s data, searches by Chinese
travelers for trips to Vietnam grew by 90% between July and August 2025
compared with the same period in 2024.
The surge follows the launch of new direct flight
routes linking Hanoi with Chinese cities including Ningbo, Chengdu, Shanghai,
and Xi’an, significantly improving accessibility and convenience.
Hanoi Emerges as a Major Draw
With the expanded flight network, Hanoi is quickly
becoming a key destination for Chinese visitors. Agoda data shows an 89%
year-on-year increase in searches for the Vietnamese capital. Official figures
from Vietnam’s National Statistics Office confirm the trend: in August 2025, China
accounted for one quarter of all international arrivals to Vietnam, making it
the country’s leading source market.
Vietnamese Travelers Explore China in Return
Interest also flows the other way. Vietnamese searches
for travel to China rose 50% year-on-year during the same period. Popular
destinations include Xi’an (+130%), Ningbo (+77%), Shanghai (+68%), and Chengdu
(+20%), reflecting growing curiosity about both iconic and emerging Chinese
cities.
Agoda’s Role in Strengthening Connectivity
“Vietnam is attracting more Chinese visitors by
unlocking opportunities through improved flight connectivity, paving the way
for travelers from China to discover Vietnam's rich culture and landscapes, and
for Vietnamese to explore China in return,” said Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director,
Vietnam, at Agoda. “Agoda is excited to play a role in connecting the two
countries, making it easier for travelers to plan, book, and enjoy seamless
journeys across the border.”
Seamless Travel Made Simple
With a network of over 6 million holiday properties, 130,000
flight routes, and 300,000 activities, Agoda offers travelers comprehensive
options to plan and personalize their journeys. Whether booking flights,
hotels, or local experiences, users can organize their entire cross-border trip
in one place – making travel between Vietnam and China more accessible than
ever.
