Marriott International has reached a significant
milestone with the opening of Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection —
its 700th hotel in Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC). The addition
underscores Marriott’s continued momentum across the region and reflects a
long-term strategy focused on expanding beyond major hubs into culturally rich,
fast-growing destinations.
A Landmark Addition in Vietnam
Set on a private islet along the Hau River, Legacy
Mekong, Can Tho becomes Vietnam’s second Autograph Collection hotel after
Vinpearl Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City. The property introduces the brand’s
signature storytelling approach to hospitality into the heart of the Mekong
Delta, blending modern comforts with local character and a strong sense of
place.
“Introducing our 700th property in APEC is a proud
moment that reflects the trust our owners, partners, and guests place in
Marriott,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott
International. “Vietnam continues to be one of our most exciting growth
markets, and the opening of Legacy Mekong, Can Tho highlights our commitment to
expanding thoughtfully beyond major cities into destinations rich in culture,
character, and opportunity.”
Strengthening Marriott’s Footprint in Vietnam and the
Wider Region
Marriott currently operates 30 hotels in Vietnam and
has more than 50 projects in development. The portfolio spans major cities such
as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as well as emerging leisure destinations
including Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Ha Giang.
Vietnam welcomed over 17 million international
visitors in the first ten months of 2025, a year-on-year increase of more than
21 percent, driven by strong inbound demand from China, South Korea, and ASEAN
countries. This momentum further establishes the country as a rising hub for
both business and leisure travel in Asia Pacific.
Across the wider APEC region, Marriott now operates
700 properties under 27 brands in 22 countries, with 400 additional hotels in
the pipeline. Through the Marriott Bonvoy platform with nearly 260 million
members worldwide, travelers gain access to a broad network of rewards,
experiences, and destinations — reinforcing the company’s commitment to
offering more choice and deeper engagement in one of the world’s
fastest-growing travel markets.
A New Gateway to the Mekong Delta
Surrounded by eight hectares of tropical gardens on Au
Islet, Legacy Mekong, Can Tho offers guests an immersive introduction to the
Mekong Delta — the “Rice Basket of Vietnam.” Located three hours from Ho Chi
Minh City, the property reflects the rhythms of riverside life with
architecture and interiors inspired by mangroves, banyan trees, and fruit
orchards.
Guests are welcomed with palm-woven bracelets, herbal
infusions, and traditional blessings before settling into one of 86 bungalows
and pool villas overlooking the river, lake, or gardens.
Designed for travelers seeking meaningful experiences,
the hotel showcases organic cuisine, local traditions, and curated activities.
Dining draws from the Mekong’s culinary heritage, including dishes paired with
their origin stories under the concept “Breakfast with a Story.”
True to the Autograph Collection ethos — “Exactly Like
Nothing Else” — the hotel offers multi-sensory wellness experiences such as a
hydrotherapy spa, yoga and Pilates studios, meditation spaces, and a tranquil
courtyard pool. Families can enjoy a dedicated children’s club, while daily
gong rituals and herbal refreshments enhance the sense of connection. Guests
depart with a symbolic pouch of seeds and an invitation to “carry the Mekong
home,” keeping the storytelling alive beyond their stay.
