Lufthansa Technik is expanding its operations in the
Philippines with the construction of a second base maintenance facility at
Clark International Airport. The new site represents a three-digit
million-dollar investment and will significantly increase the company's
maintenance capacity while creating around 1,200 highly skilled jobs.
Operations are scheduled to begin in 2028.
New hub for widebody aircraft maintenance
The facility will cover 157,000 square metres and will
provide capacity for up to nine widebody aircraft simultaneously. It will
complement Lufthansa Technik Philippines' long-established operations at Ninoy
Aquino International Airport in Manila, where the company has been operating
for more than 25 years and recently secured a long-term lease extension.
Together, the Manila and Clark facilities will form a
major maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub for widebody aircraft,
reinforcing Lufthansa Technik's position in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific
aviation market.
Project recognised during state visit
The expansion was officially announced during the
state visit of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the
Philippines, where he met Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at
Malacañan Palace. Both leaders described the project as a milestone in
German-Philippine economic cooperation before President Steinmeier visited
Lufthansa Technik Philippines' existing facility in Manila.
Investment supports long-term growth
"Soeren Stark, CEO of Lufthansa Technik, said:
"Asia-Pacific is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world,
and the Philippines are central to our strategy in this region. With the
investment in the new site in Clark, we are taking the next decisive step in
our growth strategy and positioning Lufthansa Technik for the future of
aviation – well beyond the borders of this region."
Holger Beck, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Philippines,
added: "With the new base maintenance location in Clark, we are making a
significant investment in the Philippines and substantially expanding Lufthansa
Technik's network in the country and across the Asia-Pacific region. Our sites
in Manila and Clark will complement each other as two strong pillars of our
growth, and together they mark an exciting new chapter for Lufthansa Technik
Philippines."
"It is an honor that President Marcos Jr. and
Federal President Steinmeier recognized this commitment during their meeting
today. Welcoming Federal President Steinmeier to our facility in Manila is a
particular pleasure, as he could experience firsthand the exceptional work of
our highly skilled aviation experts."
Expanded capabilities for global airline customers
The investment underlines Lufthansa Technik's
long-term commitment to the Philippines as a strategic aviation hub. The
company's facilities will support growing maintenance demand from airline
customers across Asia, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
Lufthansa Technik Philippines currently serves as the
company's worldwide competence centre for widebody aircraft maintenance,
specialising in the Airbus A330, A340, A350 and A380, as well as the Boeing
777. The new Clark facility will expand the portfolio to include maintenance
services for the Boeing 787.
