Hyatt Hotels Corporation has entered the Guyana market
with the addition of Atlantic Suites Hotel in Georgetown as an affiliated
property. The move gives Hyatt its first hotel presence in the South American
country ahead of a major redevelopment that is expected to transform the
property into Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana in 2028.
Owner RJR Investments & Holdings Inc. plans to
invest approximately $50 million in the project. A new adjoining tower will be
constructed and connected to the existing Atlantic Suites Hotel, creating a
full-service Hyatt Regency with 240 guestrooms and suites. The development comes
as Guyana's rapid economic expansion drives growing international interest and
demand for business and leisure travel.
Georgetown gains another international hotel brand
Atlantic Suites Hotel is located in the Guyanese
capital and commercial centre, with access to government offices and
Georgetown's expanding business district. Eugene F. Correia International
Airport is approximately six miles away.
The existing property offers 80 guestrooms and suites
with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking either the Atlantic Ocean or the
Georgetown skyline. It is particularly geared towards business and
extended-stay travellers and includes a 24-hour fitness centre.
Guests can also use facilities at the neighbouring
Pegasus Hotel and Pegasus Corporate Business Center, which are likewise owned
by RJR Investments & Holdings. These include approximately 36,000 square
feet, or around 3,345 square metres, of meeting and event space, six food and
beverage venues, the panoramic Aura Sky Lounge and an outdoor pool.
$50 million expansion planned by 2028
The next stage will see a new tower rise alongside
Atlantic Suites Hotel. A pedestrian bridge will connect the two buildings,
which are expected to operate together as Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana from
2028.
The completed hotel is planned to have 240 rooms and
suites, a signature restaurant and market, lobby and rooftop bars as well as
meeting and event facilities. The expanded property will target business and
leisure guests alongside the meetings and group travel market.
“This debut in Guyana represents an exciting milestone
in our strategic growth across Latin America and the Caribbean,” says Cristiano
Gonçalves, Vice President of Development, South America & the Caribbean at
Hyatt.
“As the country's economy continues to expand and
international travel demand grows, we see significant opportunity to serve
business and extended stay travelers with the trusted hospitality and care
Hyatt is known for.”
Economic growth drives international hotel investment
Guyana has emerged as one of the world's
fastest-growing economies, increasing demand for international-standard
accommodation in Georgetown. Hyatt sees the country as an emerging market
within its wider Latin America and Caribbean expansion strategy.
“Guyana is experiencing an extraordinary period of
growth and international interest, making this the ideal time to introduce the
Hyatt brand to the country,” says Robert Badal, CEO of RJR Investments &
Holdings.
Badal points to the long-established Pegasus Hotel as
part of Georgetown's hospitality landscape and says the cooperation with Hyatt
will build on that history while introducing more international travellers to
Guyana's culture, hospitality and natural attractions.
Second Hyatt property expected later in 2026
Atlantic Suites will not remain Hyatt's only presence
in the country for long. Hyatt Place Georgetown Guyana is expected to join the
portfolio later in 2026. The property is planned with 136 guestrooms, a rooftop
bar, an outdoor pool and complimentary breakfast.
Once Atlantic Suites completes its transformation into
Hyatt Regency Georgetown Guyana in 2028, it is also expected to join the World
of Hyatt loyalty programme. Members will then be able to earn and redeem points
at the property.
The two projects give Hyatt an early foothold in a
hotel market likely to benefit from Guyana's growing international business
links and rising visitor numbers, while adding internationally branded capacity
to Georgetown at a time of rapid economic development.
