Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) today announced
that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with an
affiliate of Takenaka Corporation to develop Andaz Hiroshima, marking Hyatt’s
first hotel in western Japan’s Chūgoku region. Scheduled to open in 2027, the
new property will further expand the brand’s presence in Japan following Andaz
Tokyo Toranomon Hills.
A landmark in the heart of Hiroshima
Occupying the 21st to 31st floors of a new mixed-use
high-rise, Andaz Hiroshima will serve as the architectural centerpiece of a
large-scale public-private redevelopment in central Hiroshima. The 235-room
hotel—including suites—will draw inspiration from the city’s cultural legacy
and the history of the site, which once connected Hiroshima Castle to its
surrounding town.
Guests can look forward to a rooftop bar and
restaurant with panoramic city views, distinctive dining concepts, a fitness
center with an indoor pool, and flexible event and banquet facilities designed
for both business and social gatherings.
A city of peace and creativity
Globally known as the City of Peace, Hiroshima is home
to the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park, both UNESCO World Heritage
Sites. Nearby, Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island—famous for its floating
torii gate—offers one of Japan’s most iconic views. The region also attracts
cyclists and adventurers with scenic island routes linking Hiroshima’s Kure to
Ehime Prefecture via seven bridges.
Today, Hiroshima has evolved into a creative and
cultural hub that blends craftsmanship with modern innovation. Its thriving
community of artists, chefs, musicians, and designers continues to shape the
city’s global identity. The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art and
numerous galleries and music venues embody this intersection of heritage and
progress.
A destination on the rise
Well-connected by Japan’s Shinkansen high-speed
rail—just 90 minutes from Osaka and four hours from Tokyo—and served by Hiroshima
Airport, the city has become an increasingly attractive destination for both
domestic and international travelers.
A personalized Andaz experience
Part of Hyatt’s Lifestyle Group, the Andaz
brand—derived from the Hindi word for “personal style”—celebrates the
individuality of each destination. Andaz Hiroshima will reflect the city’s
unique character through its design, culinary concepts, and locally inspired
experiences.
“Andaz Hiroshima will create a new pathway to explore
Hiroshima’s culture,” said Amar Lalvani, President & Creative Director of
The Lifestyle Group, Hyatt. “Our guests will have an inside view of the makers
and artists shaping the city’s future.”
“We are delighted to bring the Andaz brand to one of
Japan’s most forward-thinking cities,” added Masato Sasaki, President of
Takenaka Corporation. “Building on our collaboration with Hyatt in Kyoto and
New York, we are confident that Andaz Hiroshima will become a beloved landmark
that embodies the spirit and creativity of Hiroshima.”
“It is an honor to introduce the Andaz brand to
Hiroshima,” said Sam Sakamura, Representative Director of Japan and Micronesia,
Hyatt. “With its mix of culture, tradition, and innovation, Hiroshima is a
natural home for this iconic lifestyle brand.”
When it opens in 2027, Andaz Hiroshima will join Andaz
Tokyo Toranomon Hills as Hyatt’s second Andaz property in Japan—further
strengthening the company’s commitment to offering travelers immersive,
design-forward, and locally inspired hospitality experiences across the
country.
