GOL Linhas Aéreas has announced the launch of its
first direct flights to Europe, introducing new non-stop routes from Rio de
Janeiro to Lisbon and Paris. The expansion marks a milestone for the airline,
which is entering the intercontinental market for the first time since its
founding in 2001.
New routes strengthen transatlantic connectivity
Flights from Rio de Janeiro’s RIOgaleão International
Airport to Lisbon will begin on September 16 and operate four times weekly on a
round-trip basis. The connection to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport is also
planned, with further details to be announced.
The routes will be operated using Airbus A330
aircraft, each accommodating nearly 300 passengers. With these additions, GOL
connects its network to two of Europe’s key aviation hubs, enabling both
Brazilian and international travelers to cross the Atlantic with the airline.
Premium onboard experience with INSIGNIA class
Passengers on the new long-haul routes will have
access to GOL’s Business INSIGNIA class, designed to offer an enhanced travel
experience. The product includes fully flat beds, premium amenity kits and
access to selected airport lounges.
The onboard dining concept is curated by Brazilian
two-Michelin-starred chef Felipe Bronze, featuring a three-course menu that
combines traditional Brazilian techniques with contemporary culinary
influences.
Rio hub expands connectivity across the region
Rio de Janeiro serves as one of GOL’s main hubs,
offering connections to more than 30 destinations across Brazil and South
America, including several international routes within Latin America. These
feeder connections are expected to support both tourism and business travel
linked to the new European services.
Cargo operations gain momentum
The introduction of Airbus A330 aircraft also
strengthens the airline’s logistics division, GOLLOG. Each aircraft provides
around 20 tonnes of cargo capacity in the hold, transported in palletized
format. This expansion enables GOL to enhance its presence in the international
cargo market and broaden its service offering for logistics customers.
