UN Tourism has renewed the UN Tourism QUEST
certification for the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca (FTRM),
recognising the organisation’s continued commitment to excellence in
destination management, strategic leadership, and effective governance.
The certification, valid for four years, is awarded to
Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) that demonstrate outstanding
performance in three key areas: strategic leadership, efficient execution, and
transparent governance.
A European pioneer in destination excellence
The Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca, an Affiliate
Member of UN Tourism, first received the QUEST certification in December 2020,
becoming the first DMO in Europe and the fourth worldwide to achieve this
distinction. Its 2025 renewal confirms Mallorca’s pioneering role in developing
innovative, results-oriented, and sustainable tourism strategies that
strengthen both competitiveness and community well-being.
From attracting visitors to managing tourism
responsibly
In its renewal evaluation, the foundation demonstrated
significant progress in institutional coordination, participatory governance,
and a strategic evolution of its mission. The organisation’s primary goal is no
longer limited to attracting visitors but now focuses on responsible tourism
management — ensuring that tourism growth is sustainable, inclusive, and
beneficial for both residents and the environment.
Marco Táboas, Director of the Fundació Turisme
Responsable de Mallorca, commented:
“The renewal of the UN Tourism QUEST certification is
a source of pride for Mallorca and a clear endorsement of the responsible
tourism model we are building — one that strengthens social cohesion and
fosters a sense of belonging between residents and visitors.”
Reinforcing global standards in responsible tourism
The renewal underscores the importance of public-private-community
collaboration and multi-level governance in sustainable destination management.
It also aligns with UN Tourism’s broader mission to promote quality and
management standards that enhance institutional capacity, agility, and
resilience among DMOs worldwide.
By meeting these benchmarks, Mallorca continues to
position itself as a model destination for sustainable, inclusive, and
forward-looking tourism — one that unites economic vitality with environmental
and social responsibility.
