Hyatt Hotels Corporation has added Impression Isla Mujeres, a luxury all-inclusive resort off Mexico’s Caribbean coast, to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The 123-suite property occupies a coastal location at Punta Sur, the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, near Cancún. The move brings an established adults-only resort into Hyatt’s collection of individually positioned hotels while maintaining its existing hospitality concept and services.
Opened in 2023 under the Impression by Secrets brand, the resort combines upscale accommodation with a strong emphasis on its natural surroundings and the cultural heritage of Isla Mujeres. Its location near a historic sanctuary associated with Ixchel, the Maya goddess of fertility, healing and the moon, contributes to the property's distinctive identity. The resort also incorporates works by Mexican and international artists, connecting its contemporary architecture and interior design with the island's landscape and cultural traditions.
The addition coincides with the tenth anniversary of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, established in 2016 as a portfolio of hotels selected for their individual character rather than a standardised brand concept. For the international travel trade, the integration provides another luxury accommodation option within Hyatt's distribution and loyalty ecosystem, particularly for clients seeking an adults-only Caribbean holiday with comprehensive resort services and a more individual hotel identity.
Luxury accommodation with a local character
Impression Isla Mujeres offers 123 suites, all featuring private terraces. Many overlook the Caribbean Sea or the surrounding coastline, while interiors combine natural materials, contemporary furnishings and textures inspired by the island environment.
The resort's facilities include infinity pools and private soaking tubs inspired by Maya bathing traditions. Recent enhancements to its wellbeing areas have introduced yoga hammocks, dedicated wellness cabanas and TRX fitness equipment.
Dining is another significant part of the all-inclusive offering. Seven restaurants serve a range of international and regional cuisines, including Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean and pan-Asian dishes. Guests can choose from seafood, grilled meats, tacos, wood-fired pizza and teppanyaki, while five bars and lounges provide additional options throughout the day.
The property will continue operating under its established adults-only, all-inclusive concept. Its Endless Privileges programme remains in place, maintaining the range of services and amenities associated with the resort's existing luxury positioning.
According to Hyatt, the sheltered coastal location is relatively less exposed to sargassum accumulation than some other Caribbean beaches. However, seaweed conditions can vary seasonally and cannot be guaranteed for individual stays.
Marine conservation and community involvement
Beyond its accommodation and dining facilities, Impression Isla Mujeres has developed a partnership with the nonprofit Saving Our Sharks Foundation.
Since opening in 2023, the resort has allocated a portion of its room revenue to the organisation, which works on marine conservation and initiatives involving local fishing communities.
The partnership includes guest activities such as snorkelling excursions and opportunities to learn about shark-tagging programmes. It also supports alternative livelihoods for fishermen seeking to reduce their dependence on shark fishing.
These activities add a conservation component to the resort's tourism offering, connecting visitors with environmental issues affecting the waters around Isla Mujeres.
The property's artistic features provide another link to its location. Contributors include Mexican artist César López Negrete, architect Javier Uma and marine-life artist Wyland. Their work is intended to reflect both the natural environment of Isla Mujeres and wider aspects of Mexican culture.
Hyatt expands its collection of individual hotels
The Unbound Collection by Hyatt was launched in 2016 to bring together independent properties with distinctive histories, architecture or cultural identities.
Unlike conventional hotel brands built around a largely uniform product, the collection allows individual properties to retain their character while benefiting from Hyatt's international distribution and brand recognition.
Recent additions include THE BARAI HUA HIN in Thailand, Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice, The Georgian in Santa Monica, Hotel 1000 in Seattle and The Clayfield in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.
The collection is expected to expand further in Latin America. Casa Duhau in Mendoza, Argentina, is scheduled to join in late 2027.
Tamara Lohan, Hyatt's Global Brand Leader for Luxury, highlighted the relationship between Impression Isla Mujeres and its setting, particularly the island's connection to Maya heritage. General Manager Mourad Essafi said the move would introduce the resort to a wider audience while preserving its established all-inclusive experience.
For travel advisors and luxury tour operators, the addition creates another option within Hyatt's Mexican Caribbean portfolio without requiring clients to move away from the familiar all-inclusive holiday model.
The resort's continued operation under its existing concept also means that the change primarily concerns brand affiliation and market positioning rather than a fundamental transformation of the guest experience.
