Taiwan Tourism Administration invites travellers to explore the island through food, Indigenous culture and the art of slow travel
Discover Taiwan: A Journey of Flavour, Heritage and Tranquillity

Taiwan Tourism is encouraging visitors to experience the island in a deeper and more meaningful way. Centred on three themes – culinary exploration, Aboriginal heritage, and slow-travel experiences – the new campaign highlights Taiwan’s cultural richness and natural beauty.

Culinary diversity: from night markets to Indigenous traditions

No trip to Taiwan is complete without sampling its celebrated street food. Oyster omelettes, salt and pepper chicken, stinky tofu and bubble tea capture the country’s bold flavours. Lesser-known dishes such as bamboo rice, stone hot pots and grilled wild boar reflect Indigenous traditions rooted in local ingredients.

Taiwanese cuisine blends Hokkien, Hakka, Indigenous and international influences, producing signature recipes like three-cup chicken, oyster pancakes and Hakka-style braised pork with preserved vegetables. Fresh tropical fruits such as mangoes and pineapples add a sweet finish to the culinary journey.

Celebrating Aboriginal culture

Taiwan is the cradle of Austronesian culture, officially recognising 16 Indigenous tribes. These communities maintain unique languages, customs and crafts while engaging with contemporary creativity.

Travellers can encounter this living culture through festivals, polyphonic chants and traditional dances. Arts such as weaving, beadwork and woodcarving embody spiritual meaning, while local dishes feature millet, taro and mountain greens. Regions including Hualien, Taitung and Pingtung invite visitors to engage with Indigenous storytelling, sustainable practices and community tourism.

“As the birthplace of Austronesian heritage, Taiwan offers a unique cultural bridge to travellers from Australia and New Zealand,” said a spokesperson for the Taiwan Tourism Administration. “It is an invitation to explore shared roots and enduring traditions.”

Slow travel and wellness in nature

For those seeking tranquillity, Taiwan offers a wealth of slow-travel opportunities. The island’s geothermal springs range from the sulfur-rich pools of Beitou to the mud springs of Guanziling and the quiet hot springs of Zhiben.

Destinations such as Hualien, Kenting, Sun Moon Lake and Alishan provide settings for relaxation among beaches, gorges, lakes and mountain vistas. Alishan’s famous sunrise above a sea of clouds remains one of Taiwan’s most striking natural spectacles.

Slow living is part of the Taiwanese rhythm of life: sipping high-mountain tea in a traditional teahouse, strolling along one of the island’s 307 beaches, or hiking among its 286 peaks.

Join the journey

With its hospitality, natural resources and cultural diversity, Taiwan offers travellers the chance to nourish the senses, honour tradition and embrace the present.
