Delta Air Lines is marking the 20th anniversary of its
nonstop service between Quito and Atlanta, a route that has linked Ecuador with
Delta’s global network since 2006. Over the past two decades, the connection
has supported tourism, business travel, cargo transport and cultural exchange
while providing Ecuadorian travellers with access to hundreds of destinations
across the Americas and beyond.
The route has grown steadily in response to increasing
demand. Originally operated with a Boeing 757, it is now served by a larger
Boeing 767-300, reflecting Delta’s continued investment in passenger comfort,
operational efficiency and sustainability. Alongside passenger services, the
airline also transports cargo between Ecuador and the United States, supporting
exports and bilateral trade.
A strategic gateway for Ecuador
Delta celebrated the anniversary in Quito together
with government representatives, tourism officials, business partners,
customers and media. The event highlighted the role the route has played in
strengthening business, leisure, educational and family travel while
reinforcing Ecuador’s links to international markets.
“Twenty years ago, we launched service to Quito with a
clear vision of Ecuador’s importance within our South America network,” said
Diego Ospina, Delta’s Director of Sales for South America. “Today, the
Quito–Atlanta route continues to be a vital gateway—connecting customers to
North America and beyond while supporting the growth of tourism, business, and
trade. This anniversary reinforces our long-term commitment to the country and
our confidence in its future.”
Enhanced travel experience
Delta also used the anniversary to showcase recent
investments in its onboard product. Long-haul passengers can now choose Delta
One and Delta Premium Select cabins, while eligible travellers benefit from
access to Delta Sky Club lounges and the new Delta One Lounge concept.
SkyMiles members also enjoy complimentary high-speed
Wi-Fi, while the Delta Sync digital platform delivers personalised
entertainment, tailored recommendations and exclusive offers through onboard
screens and connected devices. Premium dining options and Missoni-designed
amenity kits further enhance the travel experience.
Partnership with LATAM expands connectivity
Since the launch of Delta’s joint venture with LATAM
Airlines in 2022, and its extension to Ecuador in 2024, travellers have gained
access to more than 300 destinations across North and South America. The
partnership also offers reciprocal frequent-flyer benefits, shared lounge
access for eligible customers and a more seamless travel experience across the
region.
“Celebrating 20 years of Quito–Atlanta service is a
meaningful milestone for Delta and for our customers in Ecuador,” said Delia
Ortega, Delta’s Regional Manager for Peru and Ecuador. “For two decades, this
route has connected people to opportunities and experiences around the world
through one of our most important hubs. We remain focused on delivering a more
connected, innovative, and comfortable travel experience, while strengthening
ties across the Americas through our partnership with LATAM.”
LATAM’s domestic network within Ecuador further
strengthens these connections by linking key business centres and leisure
destinations, while additional services such as Quito–Miami and Guayaquil–New
York (JFK) provide travellers with even more options for travel between Ecuador
and the United States.
