Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Monday
officially inaugurated the country’s largest and most advanced aviation
facility, the Techo International Airport (TIA), marking a major milestone in
Cambodia’s transport and tourism development.
The $2.3 billion airport replaces the former Phnom
Penh International Airport, which has now been fully decommissioned, according
to the Khmer Times.
“I’m confident that the Techo International Airport
will become a catalyst for Cambodia’s economic and tourism growth, helping
attract more investors and visitors,” Hun Manet said during the inauguration
ceremony. “This airport will facilitate both air travel and cargo transport,
further strengthening Cambodia’s connectivity with the region and the world.”
A new gateway for Cambodia
Built by the China State Construction Engineering
Corporation, construction of the Techo International Airport began in 2020. The
state-of-the-art facility features dual 4-kilometer (2.4-mile) runways,
allowing it to accommodate long-haul international flights and the full range
of modern aircraft.
With TIA now operational, Cambodia officially has three
international airports in service, underscoring its commitment to expanding air
connectivity and supporting future growth in tourism, trade, and investment.
