Airbus has revised its commercial aircraft delivery
target for 2025, now expecting to hand over 790 aircraft instead of the
previously forecast 820. The adjustment follows the discovery of a supplier
quality issue affecting fuselage panels on A320 Family jets and comes shortly
after a precautionary software recall linked to potential data corruption
caused by intense solar radiation.
Revised delivery guidance, financial outlook unchanged
“Based on a recent supplier quality issue on fuselage
panels impacting its A320 Family delivery flow, Airbus SE is providing an
update to its commercial aircraft delivery guidance for 2025,” the company said
in a statement. Despite the reduced delivery target, Airbus confirmed that its
financial guidance remains unchanged. Adjusted EBIT is still expected to reach
around €7 billion this year.
Quality issue identified following urgent software
update
The updated guidance follows a series of measures
taken in response to safety concerns involving A320 aircraft. Last week, Airbus
issued an urgent software update after identifying that increased solar
radiation could corrupt flight-control data under certain conditions. The
company has since completed updates on thousands of in-service aircraft.
Subsequently, a new industrial quality issue was
detected in fuselage panels supplied for some A320 Family jets. Airbus noted
that a significant number of aircraft currently in service may be affected. The
European Union Aviation Safety Agency has issued an Emergency Airworthiness
Directive for the A320 Family related to the findings.
Context: previous delivery shortfalls
In 2024, Airbus delivered 766 aircraft—short of its
target of 800. The revised 2025 target reflects ongoing production and
supply-chain pressures as the manufacturer works to stabilise output amid
increased aircraft demand and stringent safety requirements.
