The digital travel platform Agoda has observed a
significant rise in searches for pet-friendly accommodations across the
Asia-Pacific region, signaling new opportunities for hotels and short-stay
providers. According to Agoda’s latest data, Thailand leads the trend, followed
by South Korea and Taiwan.
In addition to being among the top-searched
destinations, travelers from these markets are increasingly seeking
pet-friendly stays. South Korea recorded a 15% year-on-year increase in related
searches, underscoring the growing enthusiasm for pet-inclusive travel.
Millennials and Gen Z driving the trend
Citing research from Allied Market Research, Agoda
notes that millennials and Gen Z are at the forefront of this shift. Embracing
pet parenthood as part of their lifestyle, they actively look for destinations
that welcome their animal companions. Agoda’s internal data reflects this
momentum: the number of pet-friendly accommodations has nearly doubled in key
markets such as South Korea (+102%), Thailand (+92%), and India (+87%).
“Pet-friendly travel is becoming an aspirational goal
for younger travelers across Asia,” said Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President of
Supply at Agoda. “People are increasingly prioritizing the comfort of their
pets when planning trips. This gives accommodation providers a real opportunity
to adapt and differentiate. Those investing in pet-friendly amenities and
experiences will be best positioned to build loyalty and thrive in an evolving
hospitality market.”
New opportunities for hotels and destinations
As destinations such as Thailand attract pet travelers
from neighboring markets, hotels have a chance to tailor their offerings to
meet these guests’ expectations. In South Korea, for example, the Korea Tourism
Organization (KTO) promotes pet-inclusive travel through guidelines and
destination tips that help integrate pets into every stage of the journey.
Hotels and hosts can take inspiration from these
markets by partnering with local veterinarians, pet boutiques, or trainers,
offering curated meal options, or highlighting nearby pet cafés and walking
areas. Featuring such experiences on social media can also help reach millennial
and Gen Z audiences, who often share their trips online.
A growing market with lasting potential
As pet travel continues to expand across the
Asia-Pacific region, Agoda remains committed to supporting accommodation
partners with data-driven insights and solutions. Providers who embrace this
growing trend stand to gain a competitive advantage and create memorable,
inclusive experiences for guests and their pets.
