Digital travel platform Agoda has identified a
selection of coastal destinations across Asia that are gaining momentum among
travelers ahead of the early summer season. Based on domestic accommodation
searches for May check-ins, several seaside locations recorded noticeable
year-on-year increases, pointing to a shift toward shorter, easily planned
trips by the water.
The appeal of these destinations lies in their compact
diversity. Beyond beaches, travelers are increasingly drawn to culinary scenes,
local markets, cultural landmarks and nearby natural attractions. This
combination allows for a balanced travel experience, where relaxation by the
sea can be seamlessly combined with exploration and leisure activities.
Coastal destinations with rising demand
In Da Nang, interest rose by 72 percent compared to
the previous year. The destination combines the long, swimmable shoreline of My
Khe Beach with easy access to attractions such as the Marble Mountains and the
historic streets of Hoi An. A growing café and seafood scene further
strengthens its appeal.
Nha Trang recorded a 36 percent increase in searches.
Known for its wide bay and island-dotted coastline, the destination offers a
mix of beach relaxation and excursions, including snorkeling trips and visits
to cultural sites like the Po Nagar Cham Towers.
On the Indonesian island of Bali, demand increased by
13 percent. Coastal areas such as Canggu attract surfers and lifestyle-oriented
travelers, while Uluwatu is known for its dramatic cliffs and temple settings.
Inland, Ubud provides a contrasting focus on wellness, arts and nature.
Goa also saw a 13 percent rise in interest. The
destination continues to attract visitors with its diverse coastline, ranging
from quieter southern beaches to more vibrant northern stretches.
Portuguese-influenced architecture, seafood cuisine and markets such as Anjuna
add to its enduring appeal.
In Pattaya, demand grew by 11 percent. Easily
accessible from Bangkok, the destination combines a lively beachfront with
quieter nearby islands such as Koh Larn, offering a broader range of
experiences for short stays.
Flexibility and simplicity drive travel choices
“Coastal destinations continue to resonate among
travelers because they offer simplicity and flexibility,” said Andrew Smith,
Senior Vice President, Supply at Agoda. “Travelers are looking for places where
they can switch off quickly, settle into a slower pace, and still have enough
variety around them to shape the trip as they go.”
Broad offering supports trip planning
Agoda supports this trend with an extensive portfolio
that includes more than six million holiday properties, over 130,000 flight
routes and more than 300,000 activities. The platform enables travelers to
combine accommodation, transport and experiences in a single booking process,
making it easier to plan short, adaptable trips to coastal destinations across
Asia.
