21 Million Ryanair Passengers Disrupted in 2025 by ATC Delays and Staff Shortages

Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline, reports that more than 21 million passengers have suffered flight delays or cancellations so far this year due to air traffic control (ATC) failures and staff shortages across Europe.

ATC Delays League – August results

According to the latest “ATC Delays League” for August, France, Spain, Germany, the UK and Greece recorded the worst disruption levels, driven by understaffed and mismanaged ATC services. In contrast, countries such as Bulgaria, Denmark, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Belgium provided efficient operations without major disruption.

Call for EU action

Ryanair has repeatedly urged the European Commission to reform failing ATC services and ensure full staffing levels. Despite these calls, the Commission has not taken effective action to address the systemic mismanagement and shortages.

Passenger campaign

The airline is encouraging travelers to visit the campaign website “Air Traffic Control Ruined My Flight” and demand immediate action from the European Commission and national transport ministers. Ryanair estimates that adequate staffing across ATC services could eliminate up to 90% of current delays.
