The European Cycling Union has underlined the growing
international importance of the Tour of Türkiye, positioning it among the
leading events in professional cycling. According to UEC Events Coordinator
Vladimiros Petsas, the race is approaching the level of top competitions such
as the Tour de France.
The eight-day race continues to evolve in terms of
organisation, safety standards and international visibility. Organisers are
building on experience from previous editions, while increasing public
engagement reflects a broader rise in interest in cycling across Türkiye.
International field and scenic route
The 61st edition of the race will start in İzmir and
conclude in Ankara on 3 May 2026. A total of 161 cyclists from 27 countries
will cover 1,133 kilometres along the Turkish Riviera, passing through
destinations such as Aydın, Muğla and Antalya.
As the only ProSeries race in Türkiye on the UCI
Europe Tour calendar, the event brings together 23 teams, including world tour,
professional and continental squads, reinforcing its competitive level and
international reach.
Rising visibility and destination marketing impact
Broadcast live internationally on Eurosport and
domestically on TRT Spor, the race offers extensive global exposure. For the
travel industry, this visibility translates into destination marketing on a
large scale, showcasing Türkiye’s coastal landscapes, cultural diversity and
infrastructure to a worldwide audience.
The combination of elite sport and scenic routes
positions the Tour of Türkiye as a powerful promotional platform, particularly
for regions along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
Relevance for the travel industry
The continued development of the race highlights the
role of major sporting events as catalysts for tourism growth. By attracting
international teams, media coverage and spectators, the Tour of Türkiye
contributes to increased demand in accommodation, transport and local services
along the route.
At the same time, the event strengthens Türkiye’s
profile as a year-round destination for active and experiential travel,
aligning with broader trends in sports tourism and destination branding.
