The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) used Global Wellness Day 2026 to reinforce the country’s position as one of Asia’s leading wellness destinations. Under this year’s global theme, #JoyMagenta, TAT supported a range of wellness-focused activities in Ko Samui and Bangkok while hotels, spas and tourism operators across the country joined the international initiative with their own programmes.

The celebrations formed part of TAT’s “Healing is the New Luxury” concept, which promotes travel experiences centred on well-being, cultural heritage and meaningful connections with nature and local communities.

Wellness as a key tourism driver

“Wellness is an important part of Thailand’s tourism direction,” said Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of TAT. “Through Healing is the New Luxury, TAT is presenting travel experiences that help visitors reconnect with themselves, nature and local culture. Global Wellness Day 2026 allows Thailand to show how wellness can be part of everyday travel while creating wider benefits for destinations, entrepreneurs and communities.”

According to TAT, wellness tourism continues to play an increasingly important role in attracting international visitors seeking experiences that combine relaxation, personal well-being and cultural discovery.

Ko Samui focuses on active wellness

On Ko Samui, TAT supported the “Samui Jump for Wellness 2026” programme, organised in cooperation with the Samui Spa Association from 12 to 14 June.

The event featured activities such as Jump Exercise and Aqua Aerobics, encouraging participants to improve both physical and mental well-being. At the same time, the initiative highlighted the island’s growing reputation as a destination for wellness-oriented travel.

The programme also reflects TAT’s strategy of linking global wellness trends with local destination development. By working closely with tourism businesses and community partners, the initiative aims to strengthen Ko Samui’s appeal as a destination for active, restorative and nature-based holidays.

Traditional wisdom meets modern wellness in Bangkok

In Bangkok, TAT supported a wellness event at Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort on 13 June. Set along the Chao Phraya River, the programme focused on Eastern healing traditions, mindful living and contemporary longevity practices.

Participants from Thailand and abroad explored Thai herbal knowledge, traditional healing concepts and movement-based wellness activities designed to promote balance and relaxation.

Highlights included a herbal tea blending workshop featuring locally sourced Thai botanicals, as well as sessions in Muay Thai, Tai Chi, yoga and sound healing.

Strengthening Thailand’s wellness tourism identity

Together with numerous wellness initiatives organised by hotels and tourism operators throughout the country, TAT’s participation in Global Wellness Day 2026 showcased the diversity of Thailand’s wellness offering.

By combining traditional knowledge, natural ingredients, hospitality, local culture and unique destinations, Thailand continues to position itself as a leading wellness tourism destination for international travellers seeking meaningful and restorative travel experiences.
