The
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) proudly announces that Chiang Mai has been
crowned the No. 1 City in Asia by the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025.
Chiang Mai also earned the No. 2 spot globally, confirming its place as one of
the world’s most beloved destinations. Bangkok ranked No. 3 in Asia and No. 4
worldwide, making both cities Hall of Fame honourees for their consistent
excellence.
Chiang
Mai received a Reader Score of 91.94, with travellers praising its friendly
locals, excellent food, ancient temples like Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, lively
night markets, and scenic mountains. Ethical elephant encounters were another
highlight.
Bangkok
followed with a Reader Score of 91.34, applauded for its vibrant mix of street
food, temples, nightlife, and cultural experiences. One reader called it “the
most fascinating, beautiful, and exciting city.”
In
the Best Islands in Asia category, Thailand secured two spots:

Phuket ranked 4th (Score: 89.47) for
its beaches, luxury resorts, and marine activities.
·
Ko Samui came in 5th (Score: 89.31),
noted for its relaxed charm and tropical appeal.
TAT
Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said: “Thailand continues to stand out in
travellers’ hearts. These recognitions reflect the rich diversity of
experiences we offer.”
The
Travel + Leisure rankings are based on nearly 180,000 reader submissions and
over 657,000 votes, evaluating cities by sights, culture, cuisine,
friendliness, shopping, and value—areas where Thai destinations continue to
excel.
