For
the first time, the World Congress of Vine and Wine will be held in the Republic
of Moldova, the country with the highest vineyard area per capita—boasting 4
hectares of vines for every 100 people. Moldova has nearly 110,000 hectares of
vineyards, ranks among the top 20 wine-producing nations, and is the 14th
largest wine exporter globally.
In
2024 alone, Moldova exported 144 million liters of wine to 73 countries,
generating over $234 million USD in export value. Half of these exports were
destined for European markets. With over 250 wineries, Moldova combines ancient
winemaking traditions with modern quality and an expanding wine tourism
infrastructure, making wine a vital part of its identity, history, and economy.
Moldovan
wines have won thousands of international medals in recent years at prestigious
competitions such as the Berliner Wine Trophy, Mundus Vini, Decanter World Wine
Awards, and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, enhancing the country’s
reputation as a serious player on the global wine stage.
A
key moment in Moldova’s wine promotion efforts was the 2013 launch of the "Wine
of Moldova: Unexpectedly Great" brand and the establishment of the National
Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV).
The
46th edition of the World Congress will take place 16–20 June 2025 at the Palace
of the Republic in Chișinău, welcoming 300 participants from 51 OIV member
countries. Experts, winemakers, oenologists, and policymakers will gather to
discuss the future of the global wine industry.
Attendees
will also enjoy 13 technical visits to Moldova’s top wineries and a gala dinner
at Cricova, the legendary underground wine city.
Participation
packages are available on the official website:

The
event is organised by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) in
collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova and
the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV). Moldova has been an OIV member
since 2001—the first CIS country to join. The 2025 congress also marks the
beginning of the OIV’s second century, following its centennial celebration in
2024.
