Bangladesh Seeks Turkish Partnership for Forest Restoration and Eco-Tourism Development
The
move comes amid rising concern over habitat degradation and recent wildlife
casualties, including the death of several elephants due to food scarcity and
habitat loss.
The
request was conveyed by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Environment Adviser to the
transitional government, during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador Ramis Sen in
Dhaka, according to a statement from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Environment.
Hasan
stressed the need for urgent collaboration to rehabilitate forest areas
impacted by human-wildlife conflict. She called for the use of native tree
species and tourism models that protect and preserve natural ecosystems, citing
Türkiye’s successful experience in nature-based tourism and ecological
conservation as a model worth emulating.
She
also shared details of a master plan for eco-tourism in Sylhet, a region in
eastern Bangladesh known for its natural beauty, emphasizing sustainable
tourism development with minimal environmental impact.
Ambassador
Sen responded positively, affirming that the Turkish Cooperation and
Coordination Agency (TIKA) stands ready to support joint medium-scale projects.
He pledged to connect the adviser’s office with relevant Turkish institutions
to explore concrete areas of cooperation and build lasting partnerships between
the two nations.
