Thailand welcomes one millionth UK visitor as long-haul arrivals reach record high

Thailand has welcomed its one millionth visitor from the United Kingdom, marking the first time UK arrivals have exceeded this level since the pandemic. The milestone was celebrated at Suvarnabhumi Airport and coincides with another record: cumulative long-haul arrivals to Thailand have now surpassed 10 million visitors, the highest level ever recorded.

“The United Kingdom remains one of our most important long-haul markets,” said TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool. “This milestone reflects strong confidence among UK travellers. Our focus is now on encouraging longer stays, year-round travel and visits beyond the traditional hotspots, in close cooperation with airline and trade partners.”

UK arrivals are expected to reach nearly 1.1 million by the end of 2025, generating more than 80 billion baht in tourism revenue. British travellers rank among Thailand’s top ten source markets, with an average stay of more than 17 nights and spending of around 60,000–70,000 baht per trip. Popular destinations include Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani and Chiang Mai.

The UK achievement reflects broader growth from long-haul markets. As of mid-December 2025, arrivals from Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa exceeded 10 million for the first time, accounting for over 30 per cent of total international arrivals. Europe led with 7.6 million visitors, up 12.6 per cent year on year, while arrivals from the Americas rose to 1.5 million, an increase of 7 per cent.

Air connectivity continues to strengthen. This winter, five airlines operate direct UK–Thailand services with 35 flights per week and a 12 per cent increase in seat capacity year on year. Further expansion is confirmed for 2026, including year-round London Gatwick–Bangkok flights by British Airways and new London Heathrow–Phuket services by Virgin Atlantic in winter 2026/27.

Building on this momentum, Thailand’s tourism strategy for 2026 will focus on high-quality growth from long-haul markets, promoting year-round travel, longer stays and a wider spread of visitors across the country.
