Thailand is strengthening its position in the
international luxury and ultra-luxury travel market with a focus on experiences
rather than traditional concepts of opulence. At Helentours Wonderland Bangkok
2026, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) presented wellness, gastronomy,
culture and hospitality as key elements for developing higher-value travel
programmes.
Around 400 participants from 42 countries attended
activities on 3 and 4 September, including international buyers, travel
advisors, destination management companies, luxury hotels and other tourism
partners. The programme combined B2B meetings with first-hand experiences
designed to show how Thai culture and lifestyle can be incorporated into
premium travel products.
Thailand puts experiences at the heart of luxury
travel
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool and Chiravadee
Khunsub, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, the
Americas, the Middle East and Africa, welcomed participants at a gala dinner at
Nai Lert Park on 3 September.
The event provided an opportunity for TAT to meet
international buyers and partners directly and discuss the development of
travel programmes built around wellness, gastronomy, culture and Thai
hospitality.
“Luxury travel today is increasingly defined by
meaningful moments, personalised experiences and lasting memories,” said
Thapanee. She added that TAT was using Helentours Wonderland to demonstrate how
Thailand’s strengths could be translated into higher-value programmes for
international partners.
Thai gastronomy becomes a cultural experience
Food took centre stage on 4 September with the
“Amazing Thailand Gastronomy Experience: A Symphony of Thai Flavours” at Chang
Canvas, One Bangkok.
Presented under the concepts “The House of Thai
Mastery” and “Redefined Luxury – Beyond Opulence, Into Cultural Richness”, the
luncheon combined Thai cuisine with craftsmanship, cultural heritage,
performance and contemporary Bangkok lifestyles.
Rather than treating gastronomy simply as part of the
catering programme, TAT used the event to present food as an expression of Thai
identity and hospitality.
“Through A Symphony of Thai Flavours, we transformed a
meal into an experience where every dish told a story, reflecting the depth and
diversity that distinguish Thailand in the luxury and ultra-luxury markets and
opening new opportunities for our partners,” Thapanee said.
“Healing is the New Luxury” brings wellness into the
B2B programme
Wellness formed the second major theme of TAT’s
participation. Sessions under the concept “Healing is the New Luxury” were held
on 3 and 4 September at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok.
Ten sessions took place each day with around ten
participants per session. Sound Healing was combined with audiovisual
presentations of Thai destinations, festivals and culture, allowing
international buyers to experience part of Thailand’s wellness offering rather
than merely discussing it during business meetings.
The sessions also provided TAT with another platform
to develop contacts with companies active in the luxury and ultra-luxury
segments.
153 international buyers meet 180 exhibitors
Helentours Wonderland Bangkok 2026 took place from 2
to 5 September and marked the third edition of the event following previous
editions in London and Vienna.
The Bangkok programme brought together approximately
153 international buyers and 180 exhibitors and tourism businesses.
Participants came from Europe, CIS markets, the United States, the Middle East
and other international markets.
Pre-scheduled B2B meetings on 3 and 4 September were
complemented by networking events, destination experiences and familiarisation
trips before and after the event. Gala dinners were held at Nai Lert Park on 3
September and Dusit Thani Bangkok on 4 September.
TAT seeks greater value from international tourism
TAT’s participation reflects Thailand’s wider effort
to increase the value generated by international tourism by developing products
aimed at travellers seeking personalised and culturally distinctive
experiences.
For international buyers, the Bangkok event provided
direct access to Thai hotels, destination management companies and other
tourism businesses. For Thailand, it offered an opportunity to place wellness,
cuisine, culture and creativity more prominently in international sales
programmes – and to position luxury travel as an experience rooted in the
country itself rather than simply in the price of a hotel room.
