Thailand will provide the setting for Season 42 of the
long-running reality competition The Challenge, which premieres on Paramount+
on 5 August 2026. Filmed in Bangkok, Pattaya and locations across Chon Buri,
the new season forms part of a collaboration between the Tourism Authority of
Thailand and the programme’s production team.
The partnership supports TAT’s film-tourism strategy,
using international entertainment productions to present the country’s urban
centres, coastal landscapes and cultural experiences to viewers around the
world.
Bangkok and the eastern seaboard frame the competition
Season 42 places Thailand at the heart of both the
setting and the story. Bangkok’s urban energy, Pattaya’s coastal scenery and
outdoor locations across Chon Buri serve as backdrops for a series of physical
and mental challenges.
“International productions can bring destinations to
life through stories that reach audiences worldwide,” said Chompu Marusachot,
Director of the TAT New York Office. “This collaboration presents Bangkok,
Pattaya and Chon Buri through a globally recognised entertainment format, while
reinforcing Thailand’s readiness for international filming and encouraging
viewers to discover the country beyond the screen.”
Led by the TAT New York Office, the initiative is
intended to connect international screen exposure with travel interest and
strengthen Thailand’s profile as both a filming location and a film-tourism
destination.
Production team highlights Thailand’s sense of place
Executive producer Justin Booth said Thailand had
added a distinctive atmosphere to the new season.
“From the vibrant energy of Bangkok to the stunning
coastal landscapes of Pattaya and Chon Buri, Thailand elevated every aspect of
the season,” he said. “We’re excited for viewers around the world to experience
the country alongside the competition and discover what makes it such a
remarkable destination.”
Host T.J. Lavin also described Thailand as an ideal
setting for the demanding format. “The scenery, scale, and sense of adventure
elevated every challenge, and I think fans are going to be blown away by what
they see this season,” he said.
Twenty-four competitors compete for US$500,000
The Challenge: Cutthroat brings together 24 veteran
and new competitors, divided into three teams. Participants face a series of
physical and mental tests for a share of the US$500,000 prize fund, with
success depending on individual performance, teamwork and loyalty.
Further details about the filming locations and the
partnership are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
