Thailand is accelerating its positioning as a global
hub for health and wellness tourism, using targeted industry platforms to
connect international demand with its integrated offerings. The “Amazing
Thailand Health and Wellness Trade Meet 2026” in Bangkok underscored this
ambition, bringing together key stakeholders and highlighting the country’s
strategic focus on high-value tourism.
Hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) at
the Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort Bangkok, the event showcased Thailand’s
“Healing is the New Luxury” platform alongside the launch of “Thailand
Excellence 2026, The Next Chapter of Global Healing”. Both initiatives reflect
a shift toward combining medical expertise, holistic wellness and traditional
Thai healing into a globally competitive tourism product.
Global demand drives wellness strategy
The trade meet gathered 69 Thai health and wellness
providers, 74 international buyers and 24 media representatives and
influencers. Through structured business meetings and curated site visits to
leading facilities such as BDMS Wellness Clinic, Samitivej Hospital and
Anantara Wellness, participants gained direct insight into Thailand’s
integrated healthcare and wellness ecosystem.
A dedicated session on longevity-driven tourism, led
by Jirayut Srupsrisopa, Founder and Group CEO of Bitkub Capital Group Holdings,
highlighted the growing importance of preventive health, personalised
experiences and long-term wellbeing in travel decisions.
“This event reflects Thailand’s clear direction to
strengthen high-value tourism through wellness,” said TAT Governor Thapanee
Kiatphaibool. “We are witnessing a fundamental shift in global travel
behaviour, where wellness is no longer a niche but a defining force shaping how
people live, travel, and invest.”
Strong growth in a dynamic global market
The one-day event is expected to generate more than
929.62 million Baht in revenue, underlining its role as a catalyst for
international business. The broader market context supports this momentum: the
global wellness economy reached around US$6.8 trillion in 2024 and is projected
to approach US$7.9 trillion by the end of 2026.
Thailand is among the fastest-growing markets in this
segment, with a wellness economy valued at US$42.7 billion. Wellness tourism
alone generated US$14 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 36.4 per
cent, driven by demand for preventive healthcare, mental wellbeing and
customised travel experiences.
Integrated approach to future growth
With its “Amazing 5 Economy” strategy, Thailand is
advancing a “Life Economy” model that integrates medical innovation,
science-based wellness and traditional healing practices. The “Thailand
Excellence 2026” framework builds on three pillars: advanced medical
excellence, science-based wellness and local knowledge supported by scientific
validation, including concepts such as food as medicine.
To extend the reach of the trade meet, TAT is
complementing the event with a dedicated fam trip programme across destinations
such as Krabi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ayutthaya and Nakhon Pathom. These visits
offer international buyers first-hand insights into regional wellness offerings
and reinforce Thailand’s position as a diverse and scalable wellness
destination.
