The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has
strengthened its China market strategy with the Amazing Thailand Mega Trade
Meet in China 2026, held in Shanghai. For the first time, the long-running
China roadshow was expanded into a large-scale Mega Trade Meet format. The
event also introduced the new marketing direction “Amazing Thailand The Journey
Your Heart Leads” and reinforced the Trusted Thailand initiative aimed at
boosting traveller confidence and positioning Thailand as a high-quality
destination for Chinese visitors.
The event took place during the Amazing Thai Night
Zhong Tai Yi Jia Qin at the Jing An Shangri-La Hotel. It brought together
tourism stakeholders from both countries and highlighted Thailand’s commitment
to meaningful travel experiences tailored to the evolving expectations of
Chinese travellers.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said:
“China remains one of Thailand’s most important
tourism partners, connected through long-standing ties across culture, trade
and travel. Guided by the spirit of Zhong Tai Yi Jia Qin—China and Thailand as
one family—TAT is strengthening partnerships to deliver meaningful travel
experiences that reflect the evolving expectations of Chinese travellers.
Through the Amazing Thailand Mega Trade Meet in China 2026, we reaffirm
Thailand’s commitment to welcoming Chinese visitors with quality, trust and
memorable journeys.”
She added that Thailand is continuing to develop its
position as a regional hub for health and wellness tourism under the concept
“Healing is the New Luxury”, responding to growing interest among Chinese
travellers in wellbeing, balance and culturally enriching travel experiences.
Large-scale platform for tourism cooperation
The Amazing Thailand Mega Trade Meet in China 2026
forms part of TAT’s broader strategy to strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness
in the Chinese market, rebuild traveller confidence and encourage travel to the
country. The initiative was organised in cooperation with partners including
King Power, the Association of Thai Travel Agents, the Tourism Council of
Thailand, and tourism associations from Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri (Pattaya)
and Krabi.
More than 130 Thai tourism operators and over 450
Chinese travel companies participated in direct business meetings in Shanghai.
Thai participants represented hotels, attractions and tourism services from key
destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri (Pattaya) and
Krabi.
The programme also included a Buyers Briefing and
Thailand Tourism Update presenting the latest developments in Thailand’s
tourism sector, new products and services, and special privileges for Chinese
travellers.
Focus on quality tourism and diverse travel segments
Tourism offerings presented during the trade meet
covered the entire visitor journey, from travel planning and arrival services
to accommodation, activities, cultural experiences and wellness tourism.
Participating Thai companies were selected based on service quality, readiness
and their ability to respond to changing market demand.
The products were designed to appeal to a broad range
of traveller segments, including families, young professionals, Gen Z and Gen Y
travellers, as well as high-value visitors seeking specialised travel
experiences.
In parallel, TAT is expanding joint promotions with
Chinese and Thai partners including airlines, travel platforms and tourism
operators to sustain demand throughout the year. As part of this effort, the
Thailand Summer Blast programme will run until July 2026, providing incentives
for charter flights, increased seat capacity on scheduled routes and group
travel segments such as corporate incentive trips and special-interest travel
including summer camps.
Cultural programme highlights Thailand–China
friendship
The evening event Amazing Thai Night Zhong Tai Yi Jia
Qin also served as a networking platform celebrating the cultural ties between
Thailand and China. Performances by Thai and Chinese artists highlighted the
theme “China and Thailand One Family”.
Thailand’s performing arts group Khit Buak Silp
presented the classical Khon dance episode “Chui Chai Thotsakan Long Suan” from
the Ramakien epic, showcasing Thailand’s traditional performing arts. The
programme was complemented by a performance of the classical Peking Opera piece
“Si Lang Tan Mu” by the Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company, one of the renowned
works of Chinese opera.
Trusted Thailand initiative supports travel confidence
At the same time, TAT continues to promote the Trusted
Thailand initiative, developed in cooperation with public and private sector
partners to strengthen international confidence in travel to Thailand. The
initiative focuses on four key areas: physical safety standards, digital
payment convenience for Chinese travellers, multilingual communication
including Chinese-language readiness, and improved accessibility through public
transport systems.
So far, more than 7,467 establishments across Thailand
have received the Trusted Thailand designation, reflecting the country’s
commitment to reliable and high-quality travel experiences.
Between 1 January and 1 March 2026, Thailand welcomed
1,091,674 visitors from the People’s Republic of China, representing a
year-on-year increase of 4.58 percent. Growth accelerated in February, with
arrivals rising by 82.42 percent compared with the same month last year,
supported by strong travel demand during the Chinese New Year holiday period.
For 2026, TAT has set a target of welcoming around six
million Chinese visitors. The goal underlines the importance of China as one of
Thailand’s most strategic tourism markets and marks another step in the
recovery of international travel.
