TAT opens Tourism Crisis Monitoring Centre to support travellers in Southern Thailand

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched the Tourism Crisis Monitoring Centre (TCMC) as part of an enhanced national response to severe flooding in Southern Thailand. The dedicated hub is designed to coordinate assistance for affected travellers, centralise information from local and international partners, and provide verified updates on travel conditions as the situation evolves.

Unified response to severe flooding in the lower South

Prolonged heavy rainfall has impacted several provinces in the lower South, including Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun, Surat Thani, Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat. Hat Yai in Songkhla is among the hardest-hit areas, where impassable routes have led to significant travel disruptions and prevented some travellers from leaving affected locations.

The newly created TCMC functions as a unified coordination point, bringing together information from embassies, consulates, tour operators, provincial authorities, and other stakeholders to support travellers who are temporarily unable to depart.

Clear communication and coordinated assistance

TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool underlined the agency’s focus on information, safety, and transparency. “We recognise the concern and uncertainty that many travellers are experiencing, and our utmost priority is to provide clear information and coordinated support. TAT is working closely with authorities and tourism partners to ensure travellers receive timely guidance and assistance as conditions develop. We remain committed to transparent communication and to helping travellers navigate this challenging period safely,” she said.

In practical terms, the TCMC is helping arrange safe transfers from hotels to designated shelters in cooperation with local authorities. It is also managing updated traveller lists received via diplomatic channels to ensure accurate, centralised coordination and to avoid duplication of efforts.

Verified updates and next steps for recovery

TAT continues to issue verified information on local travel conditions to help travellers plan their movements and to support tourism operators in adjusting operations. As soon as conditions stabilise, the agency will carry out a broader assessment of the tourism impact and prioritise support measures to help affected destinations recover in a safe and sustainable way.

Travellers in need of up-to-date information or emergency assistance can contact the TAT Call Center at 1672 Travel Buddy or the Tourist Police Hotline at 1155.
