Eurowings and AEGEAN Airlines have unveiled a new
partnership to market codeshare flights. This new partnership will boost
leisure and business travel between Greece and Germany by offering enhanced
customer options.
The bilateral codeshare agreement between AEGEAN
and Eurowings offers passengers a great experience from a growing range of
direct connections to the highly popular tourist regions of Greece and Germany.
Selected flights operated by AEGEAN, the airline that knows Greece best, will
also be bookable under Eurowings flight numbers, while Eurowings flights will
also be available under AEGEAN flight numbers and marketed via the partner
airline's respective channels.
In a first step, AEGEAN will assign its (A3) code
to direct flights operated by Eurowings connecting Heraklion (Crete) and
Thessaloniki with Eurowings bases in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Eurowings, on the other hand, will assign its code to AEGEAN flights – directly
connecting Athens and Thessaloniki with its bases in Germany and the Czech
Republic. The plan of both airlines is to gradually expand the joint route
offering.
Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof said: “The
cooperation is part of our European growth strategy and strengthens our
position as the largest German leisure airline. In the tradition of the
Lufthansa Group, we stand for a cooperative approach that allows Europe to grow
closer together. The agreement comes at exactly the right time, as we are
currently recording the strongest incoming bookings in four years – a clear
indication of how strongly the market will develop in the 2024 travel summer.”
Roland Jaggi, AEGEAN’s Chief Commercial Officer added:
“We are very pleased with this codeshare agreement as it further expands our
network, offers extended options to our customers and supports our commitment
to create value through synergies with eminent partners. This collaboration
creates new opportunities for our passengers and paves the way for another
successful step for the benefit of both airlines and the Greek tourism industry
as well”.
Pan-European focus with partners from the south
he codeshare agreement with AEGEAN complements the
cooperation that Eurowings has been nurturing with the leading Czech airline
Smartwings since 2021 and enables a growing number of direct connections from
Prague for customers. Eurowings has also entered a sales partnership with the
Spanish airline Volotea in 2023. It offers customers of both airlines more than
140 connections on the websites of the respective partner and thus access to a
significantly larger range of travel options throughout Europe.
