The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is
bringing together leading figures from across the global tourism sector for a
high-level leadership event in Egypt, set against the symbolic backdrop of a
transit through the Suez Canal. The three-day programme aims to accelerate
recovery through closer cooperation between governments and industry
stakeholders at a critical moment for global travel.
Hosted by the Egyptian Government and supported by
partners including the Antonio Lefebvre Foundation, Coral Group and Abercrombie
& Kent, the event will take place in early May aboard the cruise ship
Crystal Serenity. Ministers, CEOs and policymakers from key markets such as
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Latin America and Europe are expected to
participate.
Strong signal of confidence in the region
The gathering comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions
in the Middle East and is intended as a clear signal of confidence in the
region’s tourism potential. Discussions will directly address current
challenges, including a dedicated strategic roundtable on policy measures to
support recovery in the Middle East.
Beyond regional issues, the agenda covers a broad
range of topics shaping the future of travel, including geopolitical
developments, workforce and talent shortages, seamless cross-border travel,
high-value tourism and destination stewardship.
“This event represents the first major global platform
dedicated to recovery, bringing together governments and industry leaders to
accelerate progress and unlock opportunities worldwide,” said Gloria Guevara,
President & CEO of WTTC.
Focus on long-term growth and investment
The programme also highlights Egypt’s role as a key
destination, with a dedicated session outlining the country’s long-term tourism
strategy and investment priorities. This reflects a broader effort to position
Egypt at the forefront of the sector’s recovery and future growth.
“Egypt remains one of the world’s most compelling
destinations and a perfect one to host this WTTC Leadership Cruise,” said WTTC
Chairman Manfredi Lefebvre. “Hosting this event aboard the Crystal Serenity
reflects our unwavering belief in the resilience of Travel & Tourism and
underscores the vital importance of sustained partnership and investment.”
WTTC emphasises that despite current uncertainties,
the travel and tourism sector remains one of the most resilient globally.
According to the organisation, coordinated action between public and private
stakeholders will be essential to ensure both short-term recovery and long-term
sustainable growth.
Platform for coordinated global action
Set during the transit of one of the world’s most
important trade routes, the event is designed not only as a forum for
discussion but as a platform for tangible cooperation. By bringing together
decision-makers from across regions and sectors, WTTC aims to strengthen
international alignment and unlock the next phase of global tourism
development.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment within
the industry to move forward with confidence, deepen collaboration and build a
more resilient and sustainable travel ecosystem.
