TUI River Cruises celebrated the blessing of its
second Egyptian river ship, the TUI Bahareya, in a ceremony rich in symbolism
and Arabic-inspired elegance. The event marked the official start of the ship’s
maiden voyage along the River Nile, expanding TUI’s presence on one of the
world’s most storied waterways.
Held onboard in Luxor, the blessing featured a
traditional “Prayer to Hapi”—the ancient Egyptian god of the Nile—invoking safe
and prosperous voyages. The pool was adorned with rose petals and LED candles,
while guests received commemorative engraved alabaster plaques, handcrafted
locally to mark the beginning of the ship’s first season.
An evening of culture and celebration
The ceremony blended local tradition with modern
flair, featuring canapés and cocktails, live music, a saxophonist, and performances
by Whirling Dervishes, alongside entertainment from the TUI River Cruises team.
The evening set the tone for what the new vessel embodies: cultural immersion,
comfort, and celebration of Egypt’s living heritage.
A growing fleet on the Nile
The TUI Bahareya, accommodating 142 guests in 72
cabins including French Balcony and Superior French Balcony Cabins, joins
sister ship TUI Al Horeya to offer two seven-night, all-inclusive round-trip
itineraries from Luxor. Each sailing promises an intimate and insightful
journey through Egypt’s ancient landscapes, with licensed Egyptologists onboard
to bring history to life through expert storytelling.
Onboard, guests will discover venues inspired by modern
Arabic design and shaped by the destinations the ship visits, combining
contemporary comfort with a sense of place.
Katy Berzins, Head of TUI River Cruises, said:
“The maiden voyage of TUI Bahareya marks a significant
addition to the TUI River Cruises fleet. After a successful first winter season
with TUI Al Horeya, we’re delighted to expand our operations on the River Nile,
allowing more guests to experience Egypt’s incredible beauty and history. This
blessing ceremony reflects both our growth and our commitment to delivering
memorable river cruise experiences.”
